Essentially its become a revolving door of "proposal, counter offer, end talks". Its ridiculous.

If the NHL has to fork over a quarter million dollars today then the Classic is toast. With an extension from Michigan the NHL could postpone the cancellation to further help their appearance in the public eye, something that is obviously a main concern as we've seen in the PR battles.

Why not just raise the revenue sharing to $600 million, but make each of the 30 teams contribute equally?

Yeah, I know, it's brilliant.

No need to thank me.

Game on?

1. This is pretty simple...increase the revenue sharing pot to 300M...how it helps the players is that if the bottom 15 teams are stronger then they will spend more money on salaries. The lockout isn't supposed to make the top 10 richer...
- Eklund

and a big

Question is, does Bettman have the strength and clout to get the big $ owners to pony up more? While I agree increased revenue sharing is needed, I have my doubts that Bettman has enough authority over the franchises that will be hit to get it done.

sooo each team puts in 20 million.. and than the pool is split based on who needs it? essentially the quails put in 20 and take out 50.... what's the point of the additional money transfer? just give them the 30

Proposal 1 doesn't make sense. The teams that made money last year made a combined 260 million. How are they supposed to spread around 300 million without loosing money?

No, no, no.

Each team contributes equally.

But each and every team also benefits equally.

But they greatly increase the pot to $600 million, which should placate the NHLPA, who want to see the owners contribute more revenue sharing.

NHLPA can't say the owners have done nothing - they've tripled the amount of money dedicated to revenue sharing.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box, Blue Clam.

And during desperate times, waaaay outside the box.

Can't work, you can only share your profit which last year was 260mil league wide. Why would Phoenix put in 20mil only to pull out 60 to break even? And NYR only put in 20mil when they made 60mil last year?

I don't think Bettman wants to or should make a deal. He needs to break this union once and for and all. If it takes 2 seasons, they have my support.

If they don't want to play under the NHL system, the players should go elsewhere and stay there.

Honestly, except the top 100 or so players in the league, the rest are interchangeable parts with plenty of inventory.

Go Gary!!!

You aren't getting my point correctly.

Phoenix wouldn't pull out $60 million.

Every team would share in the benefits of the revenue sharing pot equally.

All 30 teams.

It would be the greatest collective system since the Russian mir.

This is exactly why Edmonton teachers want to give out "zeros".
