Dee - it's 26 miles, they are right here. Back away from the ledge. It's like driving from Great Neck to Massapequa, the isles ain't exactly moving to Mars.
And you're right...what the fack are you doing with four huskies? You running a menagerie or something over there in the Karl household? |

Seriously, get over yourself as if the Isles really care about YOU. Much better than if they moved out of the area. Think about that. Yikes. |

Seems like it could have been a lot worse. The team could have moved from Nassau to Seattle, or Quebec. Yes, Brooklyn isn't Nassau County, but in the grand scheme of things this seems to work out for most fans. It's like when the Panthers moved from Miami to Sunrise, hell the Devils moved from the Meadowlands to Newark (I know, not as far, but still).
I think this will really help the Islanders. Obviously the team hasn't been the most successful for the past bunch of years, but I think that COMBINED with playing in that ancient arena in the middle of Long Island is what has made it so hard for you guys to attract top free agents. Not to insult Long Island, but if you aren't from there originally it's not really a destination like NYC, Chicago, etc. The fact that they'll be playing in a nice new arena in the city now should help them attract quality players, and thus help them grow as a team. |

It's time to move anyway.... your taxes will be going up with the loss of the Isles and all the business that goes with them.
Thanks your local politicians, and all the locals for voting against the new arena and project.
This is the best thing to happen to all the Isles fans in a long time.
Hopefully they get to move sooner... maybe the new developer will want the land before the end of the lease!!!

Anyone who's upset about this should have their head examined.
This is a win-win as far as I'm concerned. Reading the local papers and some of the comments from "fans," I wanted to know what drugs they are taking. They are moving to Brooklyn, not Timbuktu. They will have the same name, the same history and the same logo. The only thing that changes is that they play in a World-class, top-of-the-line arena in an area where any player or potential UFA can live in the suburbs or live in Manhattan and not be far from their job.
I rag on Charles Wang a lot, and he, for the most part, deserves every ounce of it. He meddles in personnel moves, he says stupid things in relation to the sport of hockey, he makes a lot of head scratching hires and fires, but this is a decision where I have to give Wang a loud, raucous standing ovation. They are here for another 27 years and now you can take the train (easily, too) to get there. No more drinking and driving for the fans, no more asbestos, no more bottom of the barrel crap.
If you don't want to get on the train, so to say, then stay the hell off it, because if you're gonna use this as an excuse to not be a fan anymore, especially in this day and age of the Internet, then you never were one in the first place. Sayonara, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
In truth, I would have been an Islanders fan no matter where they moved. Could have been Quebec, could have been KC, could have been Japan, I'd still b an Islanders fan. Where'd they go? Brooklyn...yep...Long Island.
Kudos Mr. Wang, you deserve it. I gladly eat the humble pie. This is the best news since the team made its run in '93.
And Kate Murray and the Town of Hempstead...I hope you're (frank)ing happy. The Nassau Hub (as they now will call it) will be a dustbowl of low-level housing and mall-like stores. All the local businesses that thrive and make money because a pro team played within its radius will go out of business and hundreds, if not thousands, of jobs will be lost. You're getting killed by the fans, the people and the media, and you deserve every ounce of it you NIMBY, backwards, mother(frank)ers. The NVMC will be leveled within 5 years, guaranteed, and our dump, which WAng offered to rebuild and fund HIMSELF in '07 will be gone and every Isles game, concert, circus, etc. will have to take place somewhere else...a loss for us, a loss for kids and a loss for future generations. Congrats Ms. Murray, you got exactly what you were looking for. Take a bow, and eat another doughnut. Sleep tight. |

Bravo Potvin! - ses111
I figured I'd make my first post in a while a memorable one.
I've been waiting for some real news to happen before getting back into the threads because, frankly, I was getting sick of all the in-fighting.
But...this is fantastic news and I had to add my .02. Of course, |

They had a chance to let Wang and co. fund it themselves. But...NOOOOO...not in their backyards. Seriously, GFY ToH....you (frank)ing deserve this. I'll miss our barn, but I'm ecstatic they'll never play in Nassau again after '14-'15. |

I hope. Murray's brainwashed a lot of those citizens. It still flabbergasts me how short sighted the majority of the politicians have been in all of this. Mangano is the only one (maybe Jacobs, too) that realized what the Islanders leaving Uniondale would really mean from the beginning.
I'm sorry, but that area is poop. Once you get past Hofstra, the neighborhood is pure ghetto. Who the hell is gonna want to set up shop where the Coliseum sits now?? Say goodbye to the Marriot, that's for sure. You're looking at senior and low-level housing and co-ops. Period. Stupid mall-like businesses that already litter the area. There is NOTHING around there. They can talk about future revenues and jobs until they are blue in the face, IT AIN'T HAPPENING.
Oh well...too late now.
Never thought I'd type these words, the area around the Barclay's Center has gentrified so much in the last decade that it's probably safer to be around there then in Hempstead. No joke. |

It's unreal. They acted like they had all the time in the world and never believed Charles would move the team. There is always someone else who will want you somewhere. I hope other people use this as a valuable lesson to not let the Kate Murray's of the world tell you what is best for you. |

Standing ovation on this post. Couldn't sum up how I feel any better. Wang as a hockey guy is terrible but there is a pretty good chance if some other guy bought this team in 2000 that the isles would already be elsewhere. |

Suozzi had a lot of forward thinking and plans into rebuilding Nassau and they voted him out. The old greedy scumbags that live in Nassau are a perfect example of what's wrong with human society. Me,me,me,(frank) you to new generations and progression.

I'm in Manhattan, not LI, so it's very different for me, I'll find it much easier to attend games. But I do have great sympathy for you and all the LI fans. Even if you still get to the games, it won't be the same experience. That's gotta be hard. I wish the powers that be had figured a way to keep the Isles in Nassau, but Brooklyn is better than another state, or country. |

The players were probably hoping for something a little further away. Off-season re-cap for the Isles: They acquired Visnovsky but he tried to kill himself so he didn't have to play for them. PA Parenteau bolted the first change he got. The rest of their off-season work? Irrelevant. The Isles are a garbage organization from top to bottom, Wang included. Nut up and relocate to Canada or Seattle. |

Your kidding right? The team is moving 25 miles away to Brooklyn. Yea, so what...you have to be inconvienced by now taking the LIRR for 45 mins but you know what....they are still our NY Islanders. The fans who love this team now will still love the team 5 years from now and you can bet the bank that if the Islanders are competing for a Cup that it doesnt matter if you live in Montauk or NYC, your ass will be in the Barclays Center. |

When the Ottawa franchise actually nuts up and wins something of relevance let us know. Until then keep holding onto to the notion that Alfie will lead you to the promise land. My guess is now that the Islanders actually have a revenue stream and a solid footing that we will finally join the rest of the NHL.
