I was about to be in an uproar about mentioning Coffey and Shultz in the same sentence...but then I thought "Why, I think Cloutier might be right, EDM has had some...underwhelming defensemen in recent and not so recent years.." |

Throw the gauntlet down.
Schultz/Klefbom >>> Gardiner/Rielly
That'll fix'em!!!

Stats don't lie. The Oilers might have had some great forwards, but on D...yuck. If Pronger would have stayed, he was brilliant. But other than that, almost no legit top pairing guys. |

Klefbom is the best out of the four of these, although Rielly and Schultz are insanely skilled puck-movers. Gardiner is the player who doesn't belong with the other three. Not on the same level at all. |

You contradicted yourself in regards to Schultz.
Don't get me wrong. That was an awesome 'get' when the oil signed him. But to say he's going to be a superstar in the NHL when you just finished saying that current NHL stars Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are having difficulty in the AHL because it's a different league/style of play. If the AHL is so different then how can you critique Schultz as a future NHL superstar based on his work in the AHL?
Why the different standards for evaluating talent? |

Does all this mean the Eberle and RNH are washed, because this is based on the first 3 games.... |

This is just silly. Its based on nothing more than a hunch. u can count on 1 hand the amount of times uve seen oskar play.
And the other 3 probably a similar amount of times... Combined.
I dont know who the best of them is, or will be, But all 4 are bluechippers. Based on the 1 guy ive seen play quite abit, i can safely say morgan rielly has elite skills. i wouldnt 'for sure' put any defensive prospect ahead of him at this point.
Ull get ur chance in this years junior tourney... |

As I said last year... I like Martindale a lot. Think there's more there. |

RNH is too small for to play in the AHL. |

Says a lot when you have Smid, who is currently the top pairing guy, moved down to the 3rd pairing. Much improved D.
I think the future Oiler pairings looks something more like this:
Klefbom - J. Schultz
Smid - Petry
Marincin - N. Schultz
7th guy maybe being someone like a Martin Gernat or Taylor Fedun. Maybe even Peckham to add muscle, if his game develops a little more.
Ryan Whitney likely won't be re-signed if Marincin looks like a player. His injury history is the concern. |

I think most would agree and Smid, Petry, Schultz and Klefbom are the 4 building blocks on defense.
