Simmonds put up some serious points! Brayden Schenn looks to be a very good future second line center!

I doubt we'll know, but would like to hear why they turned down the extension offer.

Thanks for the update Bill!

Just got home from playing ice hockey in 3+ years. Nice to see some Roo highlights. Those YT clips from the German games are awesome. Haha Giroux is absolutely having a ball.

On Fiyahh....no look pass...the german color guy says.

I think as soon as Giroux and Briere signed in the DEL together, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Simmonds and Stewart would not stay in Bundesliga beyond their 30-day deal.

The reason why they chose a minor league team was because they wanted to sign together and had been advised that otherwise interested teams in the top leagues either couldn't immediately secure insurance coverage for both of them (usually team corporate sponsors and private donors put up a significant portion of it, with the team covering the rest) or they didn't have two open import spots on their roster.

Even within German hockey (which is a mighty small realm, in comparison to soccer), Eispiraten is hardly a high-profile club. So they were eager to put their name out there by showing they could bring in two NHL players, and did a lot of legwork to make sure Simmonds and Stewart were able to get their insurance costs covered.

Now, Simmonds and Stewart want to play in a higher-caliber league and live and travel in other parts of Europe until the end of the lockout. There are no hard feelings on either side.

Hey Bill,

Thanks for keeping the information flowing. I'm looking at drafting some young Flyers for my keeper league. Any info on Voracek's recovery? Do you think he's still the top candidate to play alongside Giroux? If he's still hurt by the start of the year any chance Simmonds gets 1st line minutes?

Voracek will be OK. The injury is apparently similar to the one Grossmann had late last season. He'll likely have to wear a knee brace the rest of the season, but doctors said surgery is not required.

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how look at it from the lockout standpoint), Voracek should be back in game action well ahead of when he'd have to report to the Flyers for the start of an NHL season.

I think Plan B for the Flyers if Voracek is ineffective on the top line would be to move him back onto Couturier's line. The two played so well together in the Pittsburgh series before Jagr's health woes (he probably would not have been playing by that point had it been the regular season) prompted the line switch in the New Jersey series.

Simmonds would be one alternative RW option for the Giroux line. Another would be for Laviolette to place Briere on Giroux's RW -- as Don Jackson has done in Berlin -- and either move up Couturier to center the second line or else shift Schenn over from LW to C.

Great, thanks again. I'm going to try and scoop them both up still. Love Voracek's combo of size, skill and defensive responsibility. Could have a major breakout year if he's on the top line. I want Simmonds on my 3rd line as PIMs and +/- are the big stats there while still getting some goals and assists.

I am pretty happy that I ordered my G jersey the day he signed, shipping was 35 euros when I ordered my Jersey too, but I had to Order it off Google translate which too more time then I would have liked lol. While its not cheap, its actually only 20-30 bucks more then a replica jersey you would buy here. I usually try to get 1 jersey a year and I figured I may as well give my money to a league that is actually playing lol

It depends on what you're interested in. Are you really into history, art, culture, bars or restaurants?

OLD CITY!!!

If you're into it, you can take a walk on the Schuylkyill River trail. Start at I think Walnut, walk about an hour and youre at boathouse row. Very scenic. Also pass the Art Museum on the way!

You should also take a walk over the South street bridge. Beautiful view of the skyline with the rover right under you.

Have fun and stay away from Allegheny and Diamond

History and culture mainly. Throw in a few good restaurant recommendations?
