Because fans show concern over Martin signing it's considered complaining? The guy is a favorite for alot of fans. Good signing at a good price. Actually read this one. Good news. We all knew the lock out was happening.

No. Because one or two fans were hysterical over it.

Agreed. Definitely did. Good deal for the Isles I'm glad he'll be with us for the next 4 years. Much needed element on this team.

Very fair contract. Great job by the Islanders and MM to get it done.

I said martin should get paid. My idea of my statement was to acknowledge the need for his type of play by giving him a good deal. Someone else on here took the "paid" word as he should get "overpaid". I said 4 years at 1.5 per was what I felt he deserved. Typical islander fashion they got him cheap.....which is why it took till the 11th hour. Ultimately Martin had no leg to stand on as he was an RFA. He will def get more money on his next conny (IMO). Either way great news that he's on board. He's a beast...

I think 1.1$mill cap hit would have been fair for Martin
Remember, as of now he's just a great 4th liner

It was a good signing. It certainly does not make him a good GM. He's got a long way to go to have that title in the minds of most people.

I still say throw Martin on the top line...he's make room for MM anmd JT and he can sit in front of the net... this kids next contract will be for alot more coin!! I'll be mocked i'm sure for this but hey at least w won't be focused on the CBA

I won't mock you in any way. Inserting him on that line now and then is not a bad idea at all. Of course in a LIMITED fashion and take it from there. Giving him some limited PP time is not such a bad idea either. Spreading out what limited scoring we have is not a bad thing. You can't move the kid, stationing him in front of the net is worth a try.

Matt martin re-signed. Wow. What a shock... I guess he didn't feel too disrespected by the team, seeing that he re-signed for 4 more years at a modest $1M per. Good contract for the team and MM. Now, if they'd only get to playing again...

No! Its well above Cappy's coaching curve to actually screen a goalie on purpose.

Dude he signed an 11th hour contract. Clearly he had no leverage. It was never about feeling disrespected.......it's about 4 million vs no million.

On any other team he woulda gotten more money.....

To me, when the PP is stale and everyone's trying to make the pretty pass, never hurts to change things up. When the PP is 0 for 8, put Martin in front of the net.....certainly couldn't hurt.

That's easy to say since it can't be proven. My original point was that there was no way the team and MM weren't going to come to an agreement, while some people on this message board were screaming about how "disrespectful" it was to Martin that he wasn't signed prior to the "11th hour". It wasn't "disrespect". It was a negotiation. The Isles had leverage and used it, just as any other team would have.

You might not believe this, but every team in hockey actually strives to sign players it wants at the lowest possible cost to them. That's good business. No team says "I can sign this guy for X, but we'll pay him more than we have to and pay him Y for the heck of it". One day, MM will have leverage on the Isles when he's a UFA and can use other teams to drive up his salary. Do you think MM will be giving the Isles a "hometown discount"? My thought is "No"...
