Getting as much money as you can is both necessary and moral, from both sides. Having let themselves reach a point where they are screwing people who NEED money, i.e. folks who's livelihood depends on hockey, is neither necessary nor moral.

I've seen a message going around on Twitter that it might be a good idea for hockey fans to show up to the businesses that support your team and give them some business during this down time. I like that idea. I don't want to see any more businesses go under while millionaires and billionaires figure out how to divide up the monetary pie.

Good blog, hits it right on the head. How many games lost before it really starts taking a middle-term effect on these "non-traditional markets" that some of us live in, here in South Florida, we had just gotten the momentum re-started. All such a shame.

What's really going to suck is when they do finally come to an agreement, we'll all look at it and wonder why it wasn't completed sooner.

LESS Revenue sharing, not more! We, in the Toronto market do not want to pay any increase in Revenue Sharing, for teams that can't support themselves. Either move or fold!

And we in the smaller markets do not want to watch the atrocious hockey that comes out of Toronto.

It's atrocious, but it's worse, paying for teams that we are playing or competing for players against. Who in hell thinks that they're entitled to my money, when I don't want to pay more for my hockey tickets and merchandise to support their welfare franchises? Oh, I forgot, the government!

I completely understand and sympathize with what you are saying. The problem with it comes from the attitude of some. We are a new market and love hockey. It takes time to build a base in a new market. Now the folks who were kids when the Preds started are grown and are buying tickets because they grew up with hockey, whereas we did not. We are steadily going forward and never backward. The revenue sharing helped us get through the early years to where we are supporting ourselves now. I don't like the concept of revenue sharing because it truly is a communist system. I do, however, appreciate what it has done for the team I love. Your anger with high ticket prices in your town is justified because much of that cost certainly comes from your team having to recoup money they have to dish out for other teams. But our sympathy for you hits a wall when people in Toronto say hockey in Nashville is a joke all the while producing shtty team after shtty team while the Preds have been really good for 8 of the last 10 years and in the playoffs 7 of the last 8. Be angry with the system. Scream to get it changed. That's not a problem. But while you sit in your hockey palace and pass judgement, try to be worthy of that palace before running a better franchise into the ground.

Maybe this fool would be happier in a world where the leafs were the only pro team in existence and they squared off against AHL clubs 82 times a year. Hell, they might even end up with a wining record, and all his hard earned money would stay right with one set of rich guys instead of that other set.

If you want a healthy league, then you have to take the ENTIRE league as a whole, and not let money be the ultimate factor. Otherwise you get a system that operates like the US government, control by the rich.

You'd think that would translate to winning in the case of the maple leafs, but no, it's all about the money. The Toronto Maple Leafs are the Chicago Cubs of hockey. The owners know that its' a lot easier to guarantee a product that looks good (nice arena, cool merchandise, the TV broadcast, HNIC) than it is to win Stanley Cups. And that's how they make their money. Sure they try to win the games, but they're more concerned with production value.

You bet your a$$, if every owner made close to the same amount of money, there would be much more incentive to win it all if playoff revenue was all profit.

Count me in he camp that wants another team in the GTA. Tired of all the whining by Leaf fans. Leafs receive a disproportionate amount of attention because the market is huge and the dollars are dramatic. If NY metro can support 3 teams and LA can support two than Toronto can handle two teams. The Leafs have not seen playoff action for 8 years. It has left many fans angry, bitter and, often, irrational. It is a bad team sliding backwards. Not surprising some fans attempt to project their frustration on fans and teams that have a history of success. During the last bunch of years Nashville has been relevant when it matters. The Leafs have been no show. The idea that more revenue sharing would make the Leafs less competitive is bizarre. Leaf teams have not been good because they do not have good players. Leaf management has been bad because they don't know what there doing. Give me a competitive, well managed franchise in Toronto and hand out crying towels to the whiners.

nice article that, by pauls correct assumption.... they dont care. well, im one that paul speaks of. i'll still be a preds fan but i dont see me spending/investing/wasting near the same amount of time, attention and emotion anymore. ive reached " i dont care anymore" when/if they play. when they do great, but i have better things to do. i commonly check here and dirks sight more than once a day. now its more like a couple times a week. i may be surprised when the game returns, but for now. I DONT CARE.

Aren't the players and the NHLPA the ones pushing for increased revenue sharing?

Revenue sharing is vital for the league to survive and grow. Both sides - the NHL/owners & the NHLPA/players - know that. The big-market teams in MSA's greater than 2.2m (or something along those numbers) who pay into the revenue sharing pool support it fully based on all that I've heard. The health of their teams and the league depends on it.

Take off those rose-colored (red & baby blue?) glasses.

Man, it's too bad the Preds won't be able to take advantage of the Titans' suckage. Between them and Vandy this area will be craving a winner.

I just got the Panthers' letter to their fans regarding the CBA. Every team's letter to the fans starts the same. It's like a form letter. In fact, it is a form letter. I received two from the Predators. The first one was addressed to Dear %%Name First%%,

They actually got my name inserted into the second one properly.

I think we all got the same "Dear %%Name First%%". Tech issues.

As to the form letter, well not much else they can say that wouldn't get them fired. Of course it might be fun and refreshing to see a letter containing something along the lines of "This stoppage sucks monkey balls." Ha!

For a minute, I thought you just posted CJ's rushing yards for 2 games.
