Thought it was going to be closer to 5.5 like tavares' deal but I'm not complaining.

At least it sets the maximum salary cap bar with the rest of the forwards.

See Tambellini as capable of something...
Good signing other than the length of the deal...

Yeah, seems kind of odd they wouldn't announce identical contract signings while ski-poleing each other and Tambellini....

Other NHL owners should be going crazy on Sabres and Canucks ownership right now.
Perhaps the NHL needs a lockout for financial reasons, but right about now the first responsibility for Gary Bettman is to get team owners in line. How many oversized contract extensions have been announced recently? Scott Hartnell, 6 years, $4.75mil per. Really? Wayne Simmonds at just under $4mil per after only one good NHL season is mystifying. But let's not just pick on the Flyers here. Is Mike Fisher REALLY a $4.2mil per season player? I still can't understand Alex Semin at $7mil, Jeff Skinner at $5.725mil per, or Jordan Staal's $60 million man routine. Max Pacioretty has one good season and gets $4.5mil per for the next six seasons because of it? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. How do owners ever expect players to take their demands seriously while they are throwing money away like this?

Getting paid based on potential. Hasn't had a 50 point year yet and is already going to make $6 million. Tavares' deal was a steal for the Isles.

Except he had 53 last year...Despite missing 21 games, Hall was still tied for fifth in the league for power play goals.

He's point totals aren't the issue. Their PPG were identical. The concern is Hall's injuries.

Exactly. The boy has skill and great potential. That can't be argued. But the injuries have to be a bit concerning (even just a little).

I think part of that will go away with age when he gains some natural mass. Plus his shoulder hopefully is repaired now and you can't forget that they now where helmets during warm-ups.

Yeah, I think he will learn how to play a bit of a less reckless game though. His first couple years he seemed to put himself in vulnerable positions, and his speed caused him to over commit at times. I think he will smarten up and play a more intelligent game, avoiding injury.

A bit rich but not by much considering his potential I guess.

What gets me though is that Karlsson won the Norris - the youngest player to do so in 35 years (Denis Potvin in '76) - and led the league in points by a defenseman by a mile - he got 6.5 for 7 years. Hall won....um...ah....and got 6 for 7 years. Oh, and he missed over 30 games in 2 seasons.

Either Karlssson was a steal or alot of other players got seriously overpaid.

Players will likely end up taking another roll back so it'll be less than 6 I'd say.

Next up is Eberle.
