I am curious to see where Ott plays. If the roster stays as is, does he take Foligno's 2LW spot w/Ennis and Stafford? Does he play 3LW w/Kaleta on the right and say Adam or Girgensons in the middle? Or will he end up in the middle as a 3C? I love the fact he is on the Sabres, I just don't know where I would play him if I were the coach. |

Kevin Freiheit: Expectations for Steve Ott - KevinJames
I really like this series of information on a prospectus for each of our players.. I think for some reason that you like to error on the side of mediocrity rather than having a breakout or stellar year. (I think it would be nice to see a bold prediction and have a player listed with breakout stats)
I personally hope that Ott has more than the point total you have listed today.
Great work. |

Ott is a third line player and I feel some of you are expecting too much. He can fill in on as a top 6 forward, but he does not have the offensive skills to merit a scoring role. He is a good 3rd liner who is tough. Don't expect 20 goals and 40 points and you won't be let down. More likely, with Buffalo's incoming FA track record in mind, he will score 10 G and 25-30 P. I am fine with that, because I want him for everything else he brings.
Anyways, players like Leino, Gerbe and Luke Adam will get the chance on top two lines before Ott when injuries occur. Lindy Ruff likes to have a shut down defensive 3rd line, and Ott is perfect for that. I think Ruff would rather keep Ott in that role than promote him to a higher line.

I cringe seeing that Leino and Gerbe had the same amount of points last season. Gerbe playing 9 less games as well..
Leo had 1 less point than Leino..
Myers and Boyes both had 2 less points than Leino..
And even Luke Adam in his whole 50 games in the NHL only had 5 less season points than did Leino. |

Lindy Ruff will give Ott a good amount of playing time, I would bet the farm more ice time than Vanek, Leino, Etc. he will kill penalties and be Lindys new Son taking Gooses spot. I would think he will score around 10-15 goals while bouncing from line to line like a Mexican jumping bean. In the playoffs he will score 1 goal which will be an overtime winner and the city will put a statue up like they did with Brad May for his 1 goal.
In buffalo lindy gives 3rd liners top minutes, goose 19 mins per game the last two playoff years for example. |

I agree with many that's it's tough to set expectations when I have no idea where Ott is going to play. Also Ott is Ruff's style of player, so I can see him getting some playing time. I'm really interested in seeing the lines on the first day of the season. Leino seems like he is going to become the new Boyes....he's going to float around from line to line, achieve nothing and bad mouth Ruff on his way out the door. Signing him wasn't a good idea unless they were going to give him top 6 minutes and consistent linemates all year. I don't doubt he can play, but anyone has a hard time reaching their full potential at their job when it's constantly changing.... |

Ott will bring an element to this team that has been lacking for so long, grit... toughness....Huge sack of !@#$%!!
There should be another category made for OTT, which is annoyance level!!
Love to have him on Sabres, other teams will hate to play against him. |

Superpest - Glad he's out of the West. He was a pain to play against. You guy will love him. He would not have taken Lucic as lightly as the Sabres did last year, when he pulled that crap on Miller. |
