In a way, Paul, a short lockout might be something that would make people appreciate the business that the hockey team brings to Nashville. I'd also love to see another Admirals game in Nashville.

my theory is that the NHL is less reliant on the casual fan than the other major sports, in the sense that they don't have that many casual fans. i think Nashville is a prime example of this. you have a great base of die hards but let's be honest, the Preds' reach doesn't extend too far. (still a viable organization though.) i mean, other leagues bend over backwards to avoid labour wars and work stoppages. in the NHL, we're about to experience a 3rd major work stoppage in 17 years. it's not a case of not caring about the fans. let's be honest--no league gives a poop about the fans in terms of anything other than $$. it's just that long term, the league as a whole doesn't have much to lose in a lockout. look what happened after the lockout in 04-05 and compare it to what happened to baseball after the 1994 strike.

Does the Carolina fan base reach far? Let's be honest, I don't think so.

If they are back by Thanksgiving there won't be any damage. Anything after that and they're are going to start losing more and more fans the longer it goes.

Yes Fehr played the owners. Smooth play. We lost a whole season to "fix" this mess. Today, we have a broken system with huge 10+ year contracts all structured to work the system, a system put in place by the owners. All I can say is I'll save money on my season tickets!
