stlouis and phi obviously have the centers we need.
Detroit is the trade partner that I'm not sure will give us whats needed. Except for some youth if they sent back some prospects, but that doesn't help out the team in the immediate now.
Phx/NJ don't make much sense, I doubt Jbo will waive to go to either team. |

From the blues i could see them being willing to part with Steen, stewart, dags.
D youre looking at cole.
Those are the NHL ready players. So for Jaybo it will prob be a roster player and high pick or strong prospect.
Anything more than that and I'll be the blues balk |

Phoenix still has to get to the cap floor. Especially being run by the league.
They also Have some great prospects and went to the Conf final last year. Their situation reminds me a little of the Montreal Expo/ Cleveland Indians trade a while back. A couple of seasons before the relocation. Cleveland had a very good pitcher, Bartolo Colon and Montreal was having financial issues, but we're having an ok season. They basically traded a ton of assets to Cleveland for Colon, to try and make the playoffs. The assets were Grady Sizemore, cliff Lee and Brandon Phillips.
My point is desperate teams make desperate choices sometimes |

Normally I wouldn't say anything, because who really cares, but I figure if you're interested in writing - blogs or otherwise - you might want the information. |

Stacy Shaikin: Look whose Back - sshaikin
Stacy, I am sure Flames have discussed destinations with JBO, not sure what they are saying to him as to why they want to trade him because we are going to have a god awful huge hole on our blueline. I think the better question is why would Phoenix want to trade Yandle & then acquire JBO, dont get that thought process. As for Jersey, they still have to proceed next year as a team, so why wouldnt they inquire about JBO. Also, just like Columbus did with Nash, Feaster needs to get a feel for value league wide & then convince JBO to waive the NTC if its a teams offer not on a his list that Feasty likes.
Stewart & a 1st would be fabulous. If Feaster can pry some young talent out of Detroit with a 1st rounder, I'd be pretty happy as well. But if we trade JBO & Kipper doesnt have the year he had last year, we are in big big dodo. |

NJ is in almost as bad of a spot. Parise is going to hurt the spirit of the team and I think brodeur is go to have a slow start since he didn't have a long break for the old body to recover.
But hey Jbo for Merril/Tallinder

The question is, if JBo is worth his cap hit, why is Calgary (apparently) interested in trading him? |

Well, thats a pretty good question. Yost did an excellent blog on JBO with advanced stats & you'll see the offensive numbers are low in his time with Calgary but his underlying numbers are good in his situation & coaching style of Sutter that he's played under. Worth the read so you can understand the player a little & not just judge on goals & assists. If we were rebuilding, & we have had stories that the Flames dont want to be a cap spending team, then I understand the move. But Management are insisting they want to compete while they "retool & get younger". Not sure how trading one of our top 2 dmen who is never injured and plays the tough minutes is going to help us compete when we have no one to take his place. So yeah, thats a good friggin question. |

If Philly would not trade Schenn or Coots for Shea Weber, they won't do it for Bo. Giroux is practically untouchable and Briere has a NTC and his kids & Ex-wife live in the area.
The most you'd get is Matt Read or maybe Bourdon or Gus. But Philly's lost enough Players and they have Cap space, they'll be looking for a D-man they can trade for picks or prospects. If that's not what Calgary wants, I think Homer will keep on looking. Bourdon & Gustafsson were playing 18-20 minutes a night last year before they went down with injuries... Don't be surprised if Homer goes with giving the kids some more experience rather than making a trade he does not want to. |

Good points, KR. JBo is solid, still young - pretty much in his peak - and locked up for 2 more years. He's probably getting paid, what, about $1 to $1.5 million more than he should be getting per season?
But if he had kept putting up the points he did in Florida, he'd be expensive, yet justified.
But looking at his stats, it's clear the PP is where he's missing his points in Calgary for one reason or another, and his +/-, for what it's worth, is very good.
IMO though, it would be hard for any team to give up top shelf assets in addition to eating an over-priced salary. But I will admit, with JBo's size, age, durability and potential, I could see a team rolling the dice.
Regardless, I want Calgary, Iginla, Kipr and friends in the playoffs, so if they do end up trading JBo, I hope they get a good return. |

in current market, he's probably 1mill over paid.
But like what was mentioned I think thats a result of him being told to stay back and focus on D. So not using his strengths of being a superior skater and being able to pinch in, while getting back into position without a problem.
Jbo on the market is probably a result of how many teams that are really shopping for that top D that can eat up alot of minutes. He fills that role.
CGY doesn't need to move him, most likely they could definitely use him and under hartley he could be great again. But we've seen the flames with a top D, if they could get a center for him they should make that move without a second thought. We haven't seen the flames with a top center since Iggy came to town.

Seemed to work out alright last year, so I'm ok with what we have right now to start the season.
Further, I think L Schenn is going to have a monster year. New city, with his brother, playing in the hated O&B of the Flyers. Hellz yes. |

No doubt. Sometimes we discount how much of a team sport hockey is (let alone the impact of coaching), but JBo could definitely earn every penny and then some in a different city. It's nothing against Calgary, only that not all players perform the same in all cities, on all teams, year after year.
It will be interesting to see what happens. And there is no doubt - like zero percent - that Philadelphia doesn't make a big move to better the team, not with all the cap space they have available.

Because they have the worst crop of NHL centers known to man. |

Which could arguably be a quick turn around...Cervenka is a gamble which could end up being a solid option for #2 down the road....Backlund needs to turn things around, some promise there...Stajan, well hes Stajan...move Jbo for center prospect/current center...things arent so bleak anymore.
Problem will be if moving Jbo causes more problems defensively though... |

Well exactly, I basically consider Cervenka neutral right now, he could really go either way. As far as Backlund is concerned i'm a little worried. I keep forgetting how young he is though. |

This will be Backlunds year. He needs to prove he can be atleast a 2nd/3rd line guy or hes going to receive a one way ticket for a long boat trip. Hes young, but given his competition of late for centers on the Flames....he has ample opportunity to make a mark. |
