Wish you were our blogger. Cloutier did one of these recently and tagged Justin Schultz and Nail Yakupov's potential as 'franchise'. Everyone else in the top 10's potential was top 6 or top pairing D. Your realism is nice.

But don't you know that every Oiler draft pick is going to be a hall of fame player and every trade that the Oilers make they totally fleece the other team? At least that's the vibe I get from everyone else around here.

I don't know why, but I have a really good feeling about Cal Heeter. I like a player that develops in a winning atmosphere. I also like that Heeter took a leadership or at least lead role in the make up of the Ohio team. He had some very good stats and set some College records. Now I know he's a Colligiate player and not ready for the NHL but I like his confidence. I like his belief in himself that when the game is on the line he wants the pressure. I know he's not ready yet, but with that attitude and some obvious skill I could see him Backing up Bryz in a year or 2 depending on where he is on the depth chart.

But don't you know that every Oiler draft pick is going to be a hall of fame player and every trade that the Oilers make they totally fleece the other team? At least that's the vibe I get from everyone else around here.

You're talking to the wrong Oilers fans or you're making wild generalizations. Either way, there are a large amount of us that are realistic about it. They suck, have for 3 years now, have promising prospects but need more size up front, better D, better goaltending and hotter ice girls.

looks okay..
but probably near the bottom as far as the rest of the league is concerned. the drop off after only about 2 or 3 is steep. And those guys wont be stars, however could play very important "glue" guy type roles.

maybe laughton can be a one two punch with max talbot, in a few years. loved max and couturier this year but coots needs more ice time, hope he sees tough competition like he did near the end of the season.

cant be more disappointed about Weber but with 4 1st rounders still on our side im thinking we can make this prospect pool a little deeper, and keep this core intact while adding to it for years to come.

Nah just poking a little fun at the guys who were flooding the Kings blogs with stuff about Penner and Fraser, since they went onto being key components of the Kings playoff run and the pieces Edmonton got back haven't really done anything worth noting.

All in good fun though, I actually think that the Oilers will start to really turn it around this year though, and play meaningful hockey in February/March. I think next year they see the post season as well. Bright future.

This is true, but so far, Holmgren hasn't turned around and used picks to add veterans, which was a factor in the dearth of prospects in the system.

Also, considering the age of most of the key players, it's less of a worry. Couturier 19, Schenn 21, Voracek and the other Schenn at 22, Simmonds at 23 and Giroux at 24

Just from seeing him at camp, he's a big kid who has good athleticism.

Great analysis as always, Bill. HockeysFuture currently has the Flyers ranked 26th in the NHL for their prospect depth only ahead of Washington, Vancouver, Columbus and San Jose, respectively. Schenn is still considered our top prospect though. Regardless, all our young guys are proven NHL players so who needs prospects?

A factor that some seem to ignore. Our prospect pool is thin, but most of them are actually playing for the team. I like it. NOw lets trade them all away for an overpriced player!

Let's not forget Anaheim wants the moon and stars for him, and he's simply not worth that in a trade. If Ryan was from Toronto, nobody'd care about getting him.
