Todd Cordell: Devils Have D-ecisions to Make, a Look at Some Potential UFA Targets & More

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello was also pleased to get Fayne under contract and avoid the arbitration hearing.

“Now, we’ve got everyone signed,” Lamoriello said.

This doesn't look promising.

I think Lamoriello is expecting Bernier, Carter, or Gionta to move up to the third line, along with Tedenby. Harrold will play the FWD/DEF role, as he will be our extra forward and defensemen. No one will be traded unless Lou gets an offer he can't refuse, and quite frankly, everyone underestimates all of our defensemen, so I doubt they are moved.

I could be wrong, but I think he meant they had the players on the team locked up.

I dont know why but I wouldnt mind seeing him on the third line, he has size and some skill he can bang and go to thge dirty spots. Other then his screw up in the playoffs, I liked his upside from last year

Bernier - Josefson - Clarkson?

I think you're reading too much into that quote. He is just saying that they re-signed all their UFA/RFAs that they had left. Granted I don't think anyone else is signed, save maybe Sykora.

And Todd I agree 100% with you on Tedenby. There were games two years ago that he completely took over with his speed and stick handling, and he can't do that on the 4th line. I understand he might not be the greatest defensively, but the skill that he has IMO out weighs that

He also needs playing time to get better defensively. You don't learn to make reads and back check better while sitting on the bench.

I could see Bernier moving up. He can definitely play on any line, but the question is can he produce. During the finals I remember PDB putting him in Zubrus' place on the ZZZ line for a while.

I'm still upset about not getting Semin when I thought he would of been a perfect replacement for Parise but now I can see Lou (well I'm hoping) trade a defenseman (either Greene or Tallinder) for a player like Hemsky (hopefully he stays healthy). Lou has to know Sykora is NOT the answer. This team needs to not only get more skill up front but younger also. With two spots open, they need to fill them with some "younger" players like Hemsky and Tedneby

Tedenby's Quality of Teammate was comparable to Ryan Carter and Eric Boulton. So, you're onto something.

Upgrade should help, although I don't think he's nearly polished enough to play in a top-six role.

He played mostly on the 4th line when he was up so it's not that much of a surprise to see that. He obviously needs to play with linemates that are defensively responsible, but he needs to be given the opportunity to gain some confidence and whether that's in the top six or and expanded top 9 role he should be given the chance to prove himself

Do you expect Tedenby to produce when playing with Ryan Carter and Eric Boulton?

I haven't felt this uneasy about an upcoming season in awhile. IMO, they have to make a move for a F...even if that means trading a Dman.

I feel more comfortable with Teddy-Josefson-Clarkson. I probably shouldn't, since it didn't stick last year. Maybe this 2nd line is the best option, maybe it'll work.
I'm also not sold on Bernier. First off, he played RW all of last season, thats probably his better position. Idk if his style of play combined with Clarkson can support JJ.

agreed, Sykora is NOT the answer. It worked off and on last year but he clearly lost steam towards the end. He was slow to start, trailed the play, managed to get some goals from being in the right place for Patrick to find him, but he was also a liability because of his foot speed.
I wouldn't mind Tedenby in Albany for a full season, on the TOP LINE, regardless of his play. Top line LW with 2 of our best prospects.. Anderson, Whitney, Zalewski/Wohlberg/Coleman.. whoever.

I'd rather pick up Kostitsyn (forgot he was available, isn't he an RFA?), or Huselius, instead of Sykora/Tedenby. I'd take Kostitsyn over Tedenby just because I think it would do Teddy more good to be in the minors for a full year without the promoting/demoting pattern. But then again, I don't really want to invest multiple years in Kostitsyn either. I like Huselius and that he has experience, but the injury thing is a drawback. If he's healthy and had for cheap he could be a good fit.

I keep changing my mind as I type. Do we just go with that as our starting lineup? Do we gamble on Teddy? Do we sign the slow, yet capable Sykora? Take a shot on Kostitsyn/Huselius? tough call.

The one thing this is lacking is line combos.

i haven't been trying to say that. he didn't screw us, but he didn't improve us at all from the hit taken from Parise's departure. Thats a disappointing frustration that I'm sure many share. I admit, I've vented about it more than necessary.

How do you guys feel about Butler from OTT? Bought out. Could be brought in for cheap and is young. Better option than AK46 Sykora ?

He is a right handed shot which is good cause we have a good amount of lefties.

Probably wont happen but one can hope.... Frustrating times right now.

the Tedenby-JJ-Clarkson never played together last year, that was the year before and they didn't play half bad together.
