The contract structure of the current CBA states no salary from one year to the next can decrease more than half of the first 2 years' average salary, which means if you structured it like the Weber contract, where Benn or Kane gets $11M total salary the first 2 years, then the 3rd year can't be less than $5.5, at which point you only give him $2.5M the final 2 years of the contract. Giving a player 12% of his money in the final 40% of his contract length would surely be rejected.
