The surgery thing is a wrinkle, but I wonder if Nashville would actually want Meszaros over Coburn given he has a more complete offensive game than Coburn IMO. In the same vein, I'm not sure which one I'd keep if one was required in a Weber deal. I guess I'd rather keep Coburn to make the mix of D-men more rounded (and his propensity for playing well in the playoffs, signed longer, etc.), but I could see that going either way. |

What if Poile offer sheets Voracek for 4 million a year over four years, and he matches the Weber deal. Talk about an about-face! |

Bill if they have to include Voracek in the deal are there other free agent wingers out there that could still be a fit? |

That'd be an alright contract for Jake given the market, if he signed it |

Voracek would have to sign it first..... and if you were him wouldn't you prefer staying on the flyers.... or at least holding out for that chance. |

You should know that dollars rule at the end of the day. If Homer is offering 3 million but he can get 4 from Nashville, I'm sure he'd sign it. That said, I think he'd rather play in Philly, I know I would. But business is business. |

I think by signing an offer sheet he gets to control where he goes. If a team offers him $25m over 5 years, it will be hard for the Flyers to match. If they do match they are not able to trade him for a year. So, by signing he gets some control over where he plays next year. It would have to be the team he signs with or the Flyers. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Waiting Game for Voracek and Bourdon - bmeltzer
"A deal that would send Voracek, Meszaros , one of Bourdon or Gustafsson and two or three of the first-round picks to Nashville for Weber and the return of one or two of the first-round picks may or may not get it done.
I'm sure David Poile would prefer one of Couturier or Brayden Schenn and the healthier Coburn instead of Meszaros (who is coming off back surgery but is just a year removed from winning the Barry Ashbee Trophy as the Flyers top defenseman). However, I would think that, if that is the case, Paul Holmgren would tell the Predators to go ahead and match the offer sheet if they can.
If the Flyers had been willing to trade all that in the first place, they wouldn't have gone the offer sheet route."
Thats where I stand as well. |

Pretty sure Poile follows the same pattern to the deadline, no public comment, he knows that Holmgren is frozen in terms of other options until Poile makes his decision.
My guess is Poile would rather do the deal if he gets the right pieces back. Holmgren will have to decide if he includes either Couturier or Schenn. Nashville has always wanted a #1 center, if either of those guys are offered Poile can sell the deal. If not they match. |

if that's what it comes down, i move schenn, regardless of the fact that they just brought in his brother luke. or move both of them and it means meszaros/jake stay. if you told me it would take richards and jvr to get weber, i'd make that deal every day of the week and 47 times on sunday. |

Let him match then. I don't think Nashville can support that contract + rinne + 20 some other players. I think its a bluff. |

Stand Pat. I agree with you. Let them match the offer than. The Flyers can upgrade their team before the deadline and again next offseason. They have a very solid club. Trading away two/three players and picks hurts the team IMO even though your adding Weber. |

Sorry, Im flat out not interested in including Coburn or Mezzy. We'll just be looking to full their void next year when Kimmo is done. The only D man I offer them is MAB. I offer them Voracek as well. I offer them that and I call Nashvilles bluff to the very end. They can take some garbage as well if it helps them reach the cap floor. Shelly and Walker should be mandatory in any trade we make with them. |

I think you have a very happy Poile if he gets Schenn/Schenn and two firsts. Poile can sell that to the fan base. I think they probably fleshed out the deal before the offer sheet was made. For the Flyers to offer less is only waving a red flag in front of a bull and encouraging Poile and his ownership to match.

I understand the Flyers want Weber (but none of us know how bad). Homer already tried to work out a deal. I'm sure there were plenty of offers and the two sides just couldnt agree. Homer doesnt want to move Schenn or Couturier and if I'm him I tell them to match and stick with my current club and look to upgrade elsewhere during the season/rest of summer.
The Flyers arent going to be backed into a corner here. |

I think when you're getting a franchise d-man back in the deal, you can include one of your better ones and still be in better shape than you were. If they include one, they may be able to scrounge up the money to sign Doan. |

I just don't see Homer changing his line in the sand on what he is willing to offer Weber in a trade now that he has signed him to an offer sheet. If he wasn't willing to offer the Schenns before the offer sheet, why would he offer them now? Weber is still property of the Preds, he really is no closer to being a Flyer then he was before the offer sheet.

I always here it's all about the money for the players..... Isn't it all about the money for the owners too? Isn't that why there is a lockout on the horizon? Just because an owner has millions does not mean they will freely part with it. Nash can't sustain Rinne + Weber's $20+ million each of the next 6 seasons... on $26 million ticket revenue and -$7.5 net earnings in 2011-2012. If Nashville demands couts or schenn, walk away. Poile's window to acquire them has closed. |
