That changes nothing about how I feel about them, or more correctly, "Red Sox Nation."

I am a big Hexall supporter and love the direction of this team but one area I am not thrilled about is the short term goalie situation. I do love the long term situation. Love his approach of taking at least one goalie every draft and looking at the stable of kids he has drafted. I honestly don't understand their thinking in regards to Mason. He did a good job here

It certainly helps the probability of sustaining long term success, but also makes it less probable to compete for a cup next year. I think it would be fair to debate which method is smarter. I would argue they are doing even less of a "rebuild" than the Flyers
- YuenglingJagr

Oh, absolutely -- they know their window is narrow. Without question, they're trying to retool it on the fly. They ate Girardi's contract because they just couldn't hide him anymore

They're farther ahead of us on forwards, but they are hurting on defense. Shattenkirk would help but doesn't solve all of their problems there

I think they know a Cup isn't coming next year -- they have to. I think they are gonna try to grab Shattenkirk, see what they can maybe shake loose as far as another defender over the course of the season, hope that Zibanejad and Hayes truly do get the job done, and make one last run for it in 18-19 with Lundqvist

The true measuring stick of a goalie. Has nothing to do with the team supporting him or the team that he's playing against.

Because logic, Chris Osgood and Tom Barasso are the 8th and 15th best goalies of all time, respectively, because playoff wins are the best way to measure how good a goalie is.

Looking at that Orlov contract, Provorov is going to get a big contract.

If Elliott gets 3 years at $2.75 million cap hit and Mason gets 2 years at 4, well, I would prefer Mason. I would have preferred Mason/Stolarz than Neuvirth/Elliott. I don't hate Elliott but I just don't see him as being an upgrade.
- nastyflyergirl

The way Mason has played with the Flyers I'd give him a slight advantage over Elliot. Elliot has showed that he can be a very good goaltender and I think he will surprise a lot of people much like the way Mason surprised people when he came from Columbus.

It is his personality, he has to much of it. Teams want a Toews, no personality.

I would suspect it has more to do with the knee thing (Jeff Reese firing) but there is no way of knowing that for sure. Just seems more logical.

The 3 in 4 thing is annoying. I think it is best to give one guy the most consistent time on and off as possible over the course of the season.

- YuenglingJagr

Jeff Reese never had a confrontation with Craig Berube over Mason's return from the knee injury. The story that Frank Seravalli reported was wrong.

I realize he's not a top tier FA anymore but I'm a little surprised that he's had zero calls.

I mean...he could just be joking, but I am sure he will end up somewhere if he wants to play

yeah I have to imagine at least somebody kicking the tires on him. He's a legend, worth a shot to feel him out.

Would fill the 55 pt gap from Schenn

Oh, this again. Put in the very same situation, what goalie would have done substantially better.

He was far and away the Flyers best player upon his return in the Rangers series in 2015. Damn near stole the series for an overmatched Flyers team. Was one of the few Flyers who showed up for Game 7, and was the sole reason the game was even respectable (2-1 loss) and not a blowout.

Against the Caps in 2016, he was very solid in game 1. No chance on either goal. Not his fault they got shut out, 2-0. Game 2 was going fine for him until the awful fluke goal from center ice. Even then, he did OK the rest of the game. Bäckström's late third-period goal from the dot that iced the game was scored on a perfect shot into the top right corner. Game 3 was a team-wide meltdown, especially in the third period.

As for his Columbus series as a rookie, well, he fared about as well as Bob has since then.

Doughty's deal would be worth $8.8m a year under the current cap. But Doughty had a 59 point season.

If Provorov is around 40 points per year the next two seasons I could see Hextall giving him 8 x 8. And he'd be worth it.

Not at liberty to say. Something happened internally but not what Frank reported. It is irrelevant now, anyway. Fences were subsequently mended.

Guy played full 82 games last year with 46 points I don't even know why the Panthers don't want him.

I hope we can get a bridge deal for 2-3 years before the big contract but locking him down long term would not be a bad play. Like you said, worth the money.
