Need this win tonight.

Bill has there been any updates on how Elliott is progressing with his injury? I think it would be good to get him in a couple games before playoffs for reasons to spell Mrazek off and not have him play 95% of remaining games. As well to get him some action in case he is needed to start in playoffs. Don’t want them to run Mrazek into the ground and over tax him.

It still amazes me, even with all of the politics involved, that he didn't make the WJC team.

He scored another that tied the game at 5. Defenseman joined/led the rush and pushed the net. Frost covered him at the point and after a bunch of nice passes found an opening in the high slot and ripped it home.

Got stuffed in the shootout though to end the game

Pretty awesome goal. Cant wait to see him try that against NHL players and goalies.

Sometimes it seems like they use the age thing a little too rigidly. But I guess you can't argue with the results.

Great write-up as usual, Bill. Thanks!

the Flyers have scored no more than two goals in six of their last seven games: 1-0 SO win in Montreal, 4-1 home loss to Carolina, 7-6 shootout loss to Tampa, 4-1 loss to Florida, 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh, 3-2 loss to Boston, 2-1 win vs. Tampa.

Part of this is simply reflective of the way that checking typically gets much tighter leaguewide during the stretch drive.

- Bill Meltzer

Seems like in at least four of those games the tightness of checking wasn't evenly distributed between the teams. lol

Also, VGK :-)

Plays like that won't work against NHL defensemen. Still shows the skills he has though. The hope is that he finds ways to tweak plays like that so that they DO work on NHL players.

No, you can't, but it has hurt them in the past.

Realistically, there's no reason that Canada shouldn't win at least Silver every single year. But sometimes they take players and ride them too hard (Jake Virtanen a prime example) when there are much better players left off of the roster or reduced to playing a grinding type of game (Travis Konecny a prime example).

I don't think many NHL defensemen are going to get fooled like #17 did.

that is not totally true. we see NHL forwards do that to NHL dmen just not on a daily basis. I'd argue today's NHL dmen too often stick check instead of looking at the on coming player in the chest and just knocking him on his ass.

That's true. Let me rephrase: The skill plays that he makes in juniors won't work as well or as often in the NHL.

Main point was that the defensemen and goalies in the NHL are in a totally different stratosphere compared to the average junior player, and that he's going to have to adjust to it.

The ROW only matters in a tie breaker situation. The flyers as a whole are playing fairly well, the penguins aren't playing so hot. Evgeni Malkin is playing out of this world, if he cools off or gets hurt the Pens are an average team.
that said if anyone of the flyers big three get hurt theyre done.

Oh yeah I agree. i think it was an adjustment Konecny needed to make. he still on occasion does that but overall he has been much better from last year.
