If neither Schmaltz nor Dunn is capable of beating out Bortozzo for the 6th spot, then they are not ready for the NHL. I say this because Bortozzo is a very borderline NHL Player himself.

It could just be all about the minutes. They may want Schmaltz and Dunn playing a certain number and type of minutes to keep their development going, not playing 10 minutes a night in the NHL without any PP time, etc. I'm not saying it will happen, just a possible train of thought.

Prosser could very well get claimed again if one of the young guys grabs a spot in the top 6.

I'm not opposed to Prosser or Butler being our 7th defenseman--the reasoning presented I can agree with. But I do feel 2 of your top D prospects, Dunn & Walman, would benefit from more AHL time. They are knocking on the door soon, but no need to rush them this season. Dunn needs to show last season was no fluke, and Walman can adjust to a busier schedule awhile. Lindbohm & Schmaltz, however, have been playing in the AHL or NHL at reasonable competencies for a bit. It's time to see what they can do regularly in the NHL. OR, you include them in a trade to fill another need. But stunting their opportunities for growth/showcasing them for trades isn't helping the Blues asset management either. This feels like Ian Cole 2.0 for that pair. I get the feeling Army isn't going to give much room to a younger player (esp. on D) because he's signed Bouw & Gunnar to extensions that were unwise and now looking dubious.

You know I felt JayBo wasn't all, though I was appreciative of his ability to skate and contain. Something funny happened when Hitch was gone: the defense played a far superior game no longer being passive in their house and being more physical and aggressive at other points. At that moment JayBo started looking fantastic and a bargain at his cap hit.

Gunnar really should be the guy getting the 7th spot. Having defensive depth is not a bad thing, especially before training camp. If you lose a guy like Prosser to waivers...eh. But you also create more competition. So it's a wise move IF...Prosser is not given a leg up based on familiarity. Lindbohm is ready and should play ahead of Gunnar, the other kids should stay down and get more ice time, ready to come up if there is an injury.

Yes, that could be the case. And really, I see that as a good thing. If one of them grabs the spot, we have an extra veteran and losing him would be a good thing IMO.

A big part of that was they changed their defensive system back when Yeo took over.

That is my point; that and the fact that JayBo's game excelled.

JayBo seemed to throw more checks in the months that Yeo coached than in the year Hitch coached.....no real data, just my sense from watching which is dangerous.

How about Jordan Kyrou? He probably has a better chance of making the roster than any of the Dmen.

I would like to see a 9 game cameo if he has a good training camp for sure. Not as certain I want to spend a year of ELC on him though if the games are a bit more physical than he can handle and he's likely seeing the press box as the year wears on.

I'm ok with a power play specialist along with limited minutes given the rest of the roster. Been saying this for a while now.

I didn't buy a #30Brodeur Blues jersey but I would might buy a #68Jagr jersey potentially.

It would be fun to have him on the team but I question how much he would have left in the tank for a long playoff run. You would definitely have to use him more sparingly than he was in Florida.

Obviously I love Jagr, but to sign him means sitting 1 of our guys. At whose cost does it take? Barbashev, Sanford, Jaskin??? Just to get Jagr in the lineup means stunting another players growth, granted Jagr would probably out produce those guys in a full season but it also means they dont learn as much in a full season as they should.

I hope he finds a job in the NHL. He can still produce. If it means 1 more win in a season to get your team that much higher in the standings then i would sign him. A win is a win, points are points. In the crowded central, i think the Blues could do worse, but unfortunately we basically already have our lineup set.

glad vegas did not take hutton, serves well as a backup and at the trade deadline could get us some assets(assuming 1 goalie goes down during the course of the season and we see what we have in the pipeline) Doubt the Blues resign hutton after this next season so...

If the Blues were to sign Jagr, i still would not get a Jagr jersey. Too much like the Brodeur signing.

The only Jagr Jersey i would wear is a Penguins Jagr jersey

Jagr over any of them. That's pretty silly, not to sign him because a young guy needs a chance. They will get a chance if they are good enough.

Sign him Doug!

The biggest issue I see with Jagr is the time it takes for him to get back when his line loses the puck in the o-zone.

Watching him with the puck is a thing of beauty though.
