The hawks played a very good game.

with 4 days rest and johnny o back after injury layoff..the passing was a bit off..

another game where shooting accuracy and selection was way off: missed the net and off the glass were the foley phrases of the night...

that panarin one timer looks great when it goes in but he was 0 for the net all night..

panik with another dipsey do move..had the whole left side of the net but shot in to berniers chest protector...

tip of the hat bernier...he was excellent...

there are games where you get 20 SOG's and 5 go in and games where you get 40 plus and nothing goes in...move along

Bernier saw a lot of the rubber coming at him. He was not forced to make any as I recall highlight reel saves.

Just saying I think there is a "book" on the Hawks—force them outside the circles and they become a lot easier to contain.

It's not kryptonite, but against teams who have the size and discipline to do it, they will need to adjust.

No need to Panik .Coach Q changed a winning line up after a 4 day break ,not his usual MO . Oduya had to come in ,was he ready ,he looked ok but was swimming down stream on the only goal . Jurco can sit for now ,Injured ?? maybe .Desi deserves to be in there ,and is a decent faceoff man .Leave Hoss on the 3rd line ,not because he is done or anything but that he makes that line so much better . But Hartman on the 3rd Desi on the 4th and find away to get Kempny back in .Easy peasy Japanesey..GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They took many more pucks to the net in the 3rd period, would have liked to see more of that earlier, but Bernier did make some very high quality saves, and some other opportunities were sent high and wide.

The scramble with Panarin on the puck in the last minute could have gone in as easily as stay out, and Hossa's shot in the 2nd went off the post in a scramble, just before the Ducks scored.

At least 3 times that I saw Bernier looked behind him to see if the puck was in the net

Sort of crappy that the Duck goal came off a line rush after the Hossa post, when half the skaters on both side stopped, thinking the Hoss shot was in, or covered by Bernier as the puck wasn't visible.

If they play like that in a 7 game series, most likely they'll get to 4 wins before their opponent.

Interesting to see the Wild get smoked last night in TB. Fell behind 3-0 before a late Wild goal with 4 minutes left. The great DD gave up 4 on 29 shots (.862 SV %). Back to back Wild losses, and a back to back tonight in FLA.

Living in So Cal, I was forced into the Anaheim feed. They spent the first half of the game complaining that the Hawks were "throwing the first punch", but the refs were only calling penalties on the Ducks retaliation.

Not for nothing, they also were gushing over Bernier's play saying he was magnificent! I know our guys would do the same if Crow stopped 45 shots but still...

Despite the loss, I thought that the D was more settled and moved the puck out of our end better than what we have seen for most of the year. There were a couple of turnovers but in general the D pairings worked well with 4 and 27 back together.

First off, what a bunch of crybabies. Second, if they have watched any NHL game, they would know that the refs are always going to call the retaliation. They are broadcasting to a mostly ignorant fanbase.

Chalk that up to a goalie stealing one as the team in front of him played a hell of a road game. But what shows the quality of a team is their bounce back! So lets see a barrage of goals tonight against the Spoked Wheel as they are really scuffling in first periods. Not that Detroit doesn't always play us tough and no lead is safe....6-1 and feeling good sounds good to me!!!!!

Forcing things outside isn't unique to defending the Hawks. That's how you defend everyone. That said, the Hawks lack of net presence is pretty pronounced. The team can make some pretty plays, but not always the productive ones.

That said, I wouldn't go crazy over a 2nd loss in 12 games where the Hawks controlled play most of the night. Regroup and move on.

It was "one of those games" where nothing goes in. Yeah a lot of shots are from outside but they had 43 shots and a bunch of them were from in close too. I think it's more a case of 1st game back after longer than usual time between games and although it looked like their legs were "there", the crispness of their game wasn't. There were a number of whiffs and shanks and missed nets and at least twice when 1 Hawk player messed up the shot attempt by a team mate by getting in the way or swinging at the puck when if he hadn't done that a team mate would have had a tap in.

It was "one of those games". Give Bernier credit, don't change anything and be ready to play the Wings tonight.

Sure, more net presence and more faceoff wins would have been nice, but last night's game doesn't worry me. They still did a lot of things right. Most nights that's a 3-1 win.

Hawks played decent and I think they will keep the lines pretty much the same. There were chances but some nights they just don't click. Keep with it and 9 times out of 10 the Hawks win that game.

Last night was a loss that doesn't bother me much. I thought the hawks played very good, just had some bad puck luck, and a goalie on his game. Games like this happen a few times a year, you just tip your cap to the other team and move on. If there is every a definition of a goalie win - last night was it.

It's interesting that the two long breaks the Hawks have had, the first game after they looked good, but couldn't find the back of the net in either of those two games. Maybe the long break messes with their shot accuracy, or maybe it's just dumb luck.

And hey, at least the Wild lost too.

What I saw last night was a playoff type game. Not a lot of room to skate in the Anaheim ozone, heavy fore check by the Duck, chippyness, and coaches playing matchups.

Two bad things I saw:

It could be because he was sick earlier in the week, but for the most part, Schmaltz was ineffective. One prevailing thought before the deadline was that this would happen once the ice shrinks. He didn't have room to move, got knocked off the puck easily, and was physically played. On the good side, hopefully he was told "expect this type of game come April".

TVR is soft as toilet paper. Maybe he won't, but I have this fear that in the 3rd in a Game 6 or 7 (you know he'll be in since he's a Q favorite), he gets the yips going into the corner and burps up a turnover in the middle of the ice.

Yeah, they had a lot of shots. But I remember commenting that there were too many shots that hit Bernier right in the chest. Too many easy stops.

Like Panik's "bite" but can his PIM negatively affect Chicago in the playoffs?

Other than that, he stood up to Getzlaf and Manson.

I thought the same thing about the fourth line also. Maybe that's something to build on in April.

Anaheim has crazy center-depth with Getzlaf-Kesler-Thompson... something to build on going forward in the playoffs for sure.
