The price tag for the cap hit was at least a 2nd rounder, price tag for a top 4 26 year old is worth at least a 1st & 2nd, the added bonus is what he'll do for Brodie's game +we finally have a top 4 to play big minutes that will allow us to play our NHL ready home grown guys Ras & Kulak in that bottom pairing. Love the deal! |

The Fridge was saying this morning that the Islanders really wanted one of our D prospects but the Flames wouldn't dish him so they accepted 2 x 2nd's....I wonder who that was? The Flames must think one of those guy's is a stud (Fat Rass, Kyl or Fox) |

Also if Hamonic doesn't work out in a couple years you could easily recoup those pics at the TDL.

as an islander fan the flames are getting not only a warrior on the ice but an unbelievable person off the ice. the things he will do for the community are great. he is a total team player and will do everything to win. great pick up for the flames. also by moving to the west his numbers should get better. not having to face pitt wash clb nyr 5 times a yr should help him. he will be missed best of luck travis. |

This trade has the stink of Brian Burke all over it. He gives away draft picks because its like paying for something with a credit card. The chance of Calgary missing the playoffs this year are really very good. Elliott was a better goalie than Smith before he came to Calgary and the defence wrecked him. Hamonic peaked in 2014-15 season because a -21 in 49 games and he's a "defensive defence man". 58 hits in 49 games is called "physical"? 14 points in 49 games and he has an "offensive upside"….He's a one season wonder and the Islanders are laughing all the way to a good lottery pick. |

saw the E:60 story on him. Great ambassador.
I think (most) Flames fans are pretty stoked to get him and for less money than Kris Russell will get paid up north... |

Shouldn't you be cheering for the Riders or something?
Heres what draft picks are...
Hamonic will be just fine. At 26 he's just coming into prime time... |

I don't think Hamonic is as bad as you make him out to be and I don't think he is as good as some others make him out to be. He is a 2nd pairing Dman. He is a pretty decent skater, who will chip in a few points I can see him hitting 35 points if he stays healthy, which is a big if because he has had 2 or 3 knee injuries the last few seasons and a couple of concussions. He'll drop the gloves once in a while even though fighting is not really something he is good at. He doesn't always play a physical game either. I always expected him to be more physical but it never materialized. He is a solid 2nd pairing D that can play top pairing minutes once in a while in a crunch. You guys will love him. Just don't expect too much from him and you'll be very pleased. With the D you guys already have he'll fit right in. Good luck |

Comparing him to Russell??!!?? The Oilers didn't have to give up anything to get Russell and besides he had 13 points, +5, 67 hits and lead the league in blocked shots. At least he wasn't a -21 in 49 games as well as only having 58 hits when you're supposed to be a physical defence man |

If you think +/- is relevant you need to go away. You're embarrassing yourself. |

Two teams in the NHL went heavy into the analytics last year…Florida and Phoenix. Since then, both teams have missed the playoffs and had head coaching changes and shuffles at the management levels. Analytics are another tool that teams have at their availabilities, but for the most part are simply just a gimmick to get fans more involved by having a larger stats package |

Except they have a 16 million dollar shot blocker.
So really based on his plus/minus and hit total in one season, Hamonic is < Russell? You really need to stick to watermelons and gophers.

trade Bennett to the Predators so they can flip him to the Avs.
Do it. After the rumour Preds package for Duchene, I need that little rat |

Off topic, but I’m wondering what Flames fans would think of signing Tyler Pitlick as a UFA? Sounds like he is not going back to stink town. 6’2″ 200+ lbs right shot. He scored 8G and 3A in 31GP last year which translates to roughly 20G and 30pts. I don’t like to watch a lot of EDM games when I don’t have to so I can’t say much for how he looked last year. Could he be another Glencross and possible fill in with Johnny and Mony on the RW? A 1year prove it contract? I'm sure some Oiler trol...er, fans will chime in. |
