Will be interesting to see Buddy Robinson in the lineup. As Jared mentioned his development hasn't been great. He looked like he had the tools to be an every NHLer not too long ago, but hasn't really found stride in the AHL.

In relation to the blog yesterday, I don't think there is much in the "spoiler" argument, but I do believe that players and teams still want to play well even if they have very little to play for. It's important to go into the summer on a positive note. I've felt the teams overall system of play has been better of late, especially considering the amount of new faces in the lineup. To this is a positive thing. This team is far from perfect, but seeing them settle the game down a little is nice to see. That said, I do expect a bit of a blow out tonight. Pittsburgh is red hot and seem to be firing on all cylinders offensively. They are picking up steam at the right time, but I fully expect the Capitals to get to the Cup finals relatively easily in the East.

Is Buddy Robinson the Jared Cowen of Sens forwards ? At 6'5" 235lbs he sure has punishing size. At 23 years old he doesn't have much time left and with Neil being resigned I can't see him making the team out of camp next season to play wing on the 4th line.

There wasn't much expectations on him. I think they were hoping he could be an NHLer one day. Cowen was hoped to be a top 2 d-man.

Yeah the hopes were that the'd be a 4th line bruiser.

He was undrafted and Cowen was a 9th overall pick

Congrats to Buddy Robinson.

According to today's 30 thoughts column from Elliote Friedman, the Sens are still in trying to sign Drake Caggiula. Philly ( who was in before ) may now be out. Canucks may be in though.

I think it's good for the sens to be looking to College players to fill out the youth ranks. Maybe few or none make the NHL, but guys like White,Chabot, Perron, Gagne, and Englund who are highly thought of prospects ma be playing in Bingo next year. I would do them good having some decent skill guys with them. It isn't a good development environment playing on a poor AHL team.

I've always supported brining in a few college guys. You never know. They just may pan out. There is no risk in brining them in.

It's too bad Ottawa has missed out so far with the well documented college guys like Butler, Da Costa, and maybe O'Connor (I'd give him a year or two more to develop). Guys like Bozak in Toronto and Dykeyster in Detroit have worked out well recently.

Now is it just me, or does it seem like Bingo hasn't been too good at developing any players lately?

Coach Richarson hasn't been given much to work with the past few years down in Bingo. The last first round pick he got to develope was Cody Ceci in 2013/14 and that was for 30 games. Before that it was Matt Peumple and at 23 years old is starting to look like a 1st round bust as an every day NHLer.

And for reasons unknown Curtis Lazar has never played a game for Bingo. He 100% should have gotten some top 6 time down there this season.

Hopefully next season both Thomas Chabot & Colin White have a good season with the farm team.

Why did you guys trade Prince for a 3rd rounder? Seems like a poor trade value.
How is Wiercioch looking? I always liked him but it seems like he has never become more than a depth option.
Karlsson should win the Norris hands down BTW.

prince was never likely to amount to more than an okay 3rd liner. unless his development took a massive and unexpected upswing he would have never been close to a top six winger. ottawa has several players of a similar calibre, and he's shown in the past to have kind of a crappy attitude (kind of called the team out publically a couple years ago for not having him in the NHL).

i'm fine with a 3rd for him......he wasnt' worth more than that.

Agreed. There's never any harm with using underrated FA's to fill out minor league rosters. You might get lucky and hit a home run, but even if you don't, it's still no more or less likely to turn into a player than your average mid to late round draft pick. Anything to deepen the prospect pool is a good move.

As for Robinson, yeah it's ok. I mean, he's probably nothing more than he is right now. If he could make those 22 AHL points translate into 22 NHL points on a 4th line LW, then I think he'd be great. If those 22 AHL points turns into 10 NHL points and he doesn't do much else, then he's probably not even worth keeping around, depending on how many draft picks are ready for Bingo next year. I'd actually be ok with a guy like Robinson as a 4LW if he could get 20-25 points. Just not sure if he'll be that guy. He seems to play pretty small for 6'5.

I will say that I don't think that the prospect pool is quite as bad as people think. It's true that White and Chabot are the two most exciting things they've got right now. Bingo will be interesting next year. I can't see how they wouldn't be much better next season. With a healthy NHL roster, you'd have to expect that Bingo could have Dzingel, Paul, McCormick, Varone, Akeson, Perron, Gagne, and maybe they sign this Caggiula kid. There's no reason to think that they'll struggle to score as much in Bingo next year as they did this year. Figure that you've got Englund making the jump to Bingo next year, plus Harper, Claesson, etc, and maybe Hogberg comes over to go tandem with O'Connor. I think the AHL team will be much improved next year, as will the NHL team.

I don't think the entire organization needs an overhaul, they just need the same things that other teams need, which is to be blessed with good health and to have the entire team pulling in the same direction. One or two little roster tweaks, coupled with having the team practicing the right way, and I think they'll be quite good next year.
