Does anyone have any info on what the Blues turned down from the Pens for Oshie? A few writers seem to believe that Blues turned down a better offer at the draft than what they received from the Caps. Was just curious if anyone heard what it was. |

Not sure but I would have to believe it was a better offer as the trade itself was really underwhelming imho.

not a bad pick up for a 3rd or even 4th line center for 1 year. misses a ton of chances though. |

Great we signed a 4th liner. How about getting some scoring help?
At this point I might almost be ok with them taking a flier on Semin...... ugh I just need to stop following this stuff for a while.
Can we please at least get Matt Irwin? |

I just don't get it. Williams signing was a bargain. This trade doesn't solve a short or long term problem. At least go for one or the other.
The D still scare the crap out of me with the lack of real depth.
If Army doesn't do more, I think he is tying his whole future with the organization to hitch and this years playoffs. |

I am not disappointed with the Oshie trade.
I think those that are overvalued Oshie. I think it is a step in the right direction just getting rid of him honestly. Brouwer will be a good addition to our 3rd line and the goalie had a good year in the AHL last year and looks promising.
And just because am UFA signs somewhere for a deal you think the Blues should have made doesn't mean they wanted to/were willing to sign the same deal here. Players can demand different contracts depending on the playing situation/city/etc. It's easy to say we should have signed Williams to that deal, but he might not have wanted to sign the same deal here, if at all.
Have a great 4th jammer. |

Copley was a free agent signing, but he has some upside I guess. Brouwer is a solid NHL'r, just more of a third liner, while Oshie should excel in a 2nd line role. It's a win/win for both teams really; Caps needed more scoring punch and got that potentially in Oshie over Brouwer's more limited offense, and the Blues can afford to lose Oshie's touch to gain Brouwer's heaviness. Cap pay the extra price for Oshie's upside/age. |

Expected a move, expected Armstrong to overpay. Both happened. Brouwer, don't remember him with the hawks and that in itself is a statement. were there better deals? why did Army pick this one? are there more moves to be made?
Steen Stastny Backes
Schwartz Iehtera Tarasenko
Jaskin BergIund Brouwer
Ott??? Goc??? Reaves
figure some guys get some chances Iike Rattie, Barbashev, and some new guys whose names i can't think of. Didn't we sign a few extra pIayers today aIso?
UsuaI army moves. Cant wait tiII him and his staff are gone aIong with Hitch. If StiIIman is true about bringing a cup here there needs to be DRASTIC changes from top to bottom.
Are they seriousIy thinking of trading Shattenkirk? That wouId be the worst move at this point besides failing to sign Tarasenko Iong term

It's not that I don't think it's a nice return. I just think there were better deals out there that helped the speed and scoring. I agree with you on the Williams deal. |

I am not convinced personally that there was. |

I agree...the only other plus to the deal is that Oshie has 2 years left and Brouwer has 1. So more cap space after this season. |

As I would draw it up as of 7/2, I think you pretty much nailed it with players and guys waiting in the wings, but I think Ott is pretty solidly a 4th liner with what he's being paid, and Goc is gone for Brodziak. That's a quality, agitating, 4th line. I really would like to see what Rattie can do getting some good offensive minutes. Also like separating and having 3 big banging bodies on wings with Backes on RW, but wonder if Hitch is ever going to move him and leave him there. I am a little intrigued by Caron as a healthy scratch/occasional 4th liner--maybe he's taking Porter's slot, but he also has some size and is on the young side.
Also, you mention trading Shattenkirk and while I think it's smoke and mirrors this offseason, it very well may be in the mix next season. Petro isn't likely going anywhere, and everyone is currently infatuated with Bortuzzo. Given Hitch and Army place a lot of stock in L vs. R shots, and 3 of your top prospects are R-handed shooting D-men with offensive acumen, there could be something to that eventually. But for this season, I think Parayko, Schmaltz and Vannelli all need a lot of seasoning and I hope we don't have to rush one of them along before they are ready. I would (generally) not be in favor of trading Shattenkirk myself, but it doesn't really look optimistic he will be here long-term given the albatross contract JBo got. |

hat was before i heard we he'd gotten Brodziak, Goc is gone. good 4th Iine.
CouId we possibly trade Bouwmeester to arizona, they need to hit the cap fIoor stiII. Iindbohm wouId not be bad on the 1st Iine and if he was, put Shatty in that roIe, yeah 2 righties, against hitch's system……
Indbohm wiII be better than a 3rd Iine roIe. he pIayed fine with Petro this Iast year in the short time he had.
waiting for the Tarasenko signing. HeIps that we now have Iehtera for 4 more years.
Trade Bouwmeester before Shatty, may take a bit of a hit, but that contract hurts us now. Jbow has not been a 1st Iine d man for us, after the injury he Iooked Iike a 3rd

Deal was going to be as best we could get. Oshie is overvalued here (and in general) vs actual production.
This is about hitting the reset button on the mindset of the team. I like this signing because now we have some one else besides Ott/ Reaves who will throw the body around. Backes is declining and wont be able to play that style for long.
Would take a waiver on semin if price is right. Maybe he takes a discount given the $$ hes already getting and a chance to play with Vladdy.

If Oshie is overvalued here then I guess it was because he magically was a solid player mnus the play offs.
It had me to do with Armstrong's stupidity. He refuses to trade a roster player for picks and prospects. That is silly. You are good n the wings. Amrstrong seems to forget he is in a cap league.
A few uears ago I would be super excited to get Brouwer and then he slowed down. He used to have numbers very similar to Backes.
You who all wanted a guy with a ring on the team got one. But this was a weak trade. Army mentioned something about the Pens offer and dmen. Shoot pick up young valuable dmen and then move dmen.
I thought after the season Hitch and Armstrong were concerned about team speed, so they make themselves bigger and slower.
This was a deaperation dump because Oshie and Hitch went at it. No offense but screw Hitch. Not that the core deserved another coach but the fact is Hitch has one of the worst recent records in pro sports play offs and not just with the Blues. This makes it seem more like Dallas was a fluke.
Coach Q has proven not to be a fluke, which honestly I did not think was possible after his chokes with other great teams and organizations. Unlike Hitch he learned something.
Better Armstrong stuck eith his strategy. And consistently score twenty goals a season requires it to happen more than half the seasons otherwise it is not consistently happening. |

If Backes is on the opening night roster, he will still be playing center though hopefully on the third line. S--t can Berglund and insert Fabbri.
Given the nature of this move, I have to think that after the season Hitch and Armstrong both agreed that Oshie had to go regardless. I never expected the return to be that great considering he's basically a shoot out specialist and is not clutch in any way, shape, or form.
Bet he'll have so much fun playing for Trotz. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. |

IMO when i first read about the trade and the return we got from oshie not sure I was too thrilled about it. But i honestly think that brouwer could play on the 2nd line. He has scored over 20 goals in the last 3 seasons. big body, great in front of the net. I saw something that 20 of his 23 goals last season were on the pp.
That is huge for us, Also said it is a huge upgrade on the penatly kill rather than OSHIE. So Im not happy about it, not mad about it I think im ok tho. |
