So.. hes now taking the 2 year deal with the intent to leave Columbus after it ends since they wouldn't give him the money when he asked for it?

Sounds good to me.

Where does it say he's leaving? If he proves himself Jarmo will fork the money over.

I'm leaning towards hes now not too happy with how the contract dealing panned out. So he'll go make his money elsewhere after the deal runs out.

He'll still be an RFA by then.....and like I said if he goes above and beyond the money will be there.

Signing a long term deal for a young player is a risk, but the return is sometimes worth it. If the B-jackets would have given him a long term deal, and he continues to perform above and beyond this past year, by the end of the contract, he would be a huge steal against the cap. With the bridge deal, if he performs, he will be getting paid big time 2 summers from now. Personally, i would lock the kid up now long term at a reasonable rate. Kid's going to be a superstar in a few years.

I think that's a fair deal for everybody.

Johnson wins because he'll still be making good money while watching the market crescendo. Then in two years - Jackpot. Way more than what he's looking for right now.

Columbus wins because they can wait to see if he's truly team MVP material before they sign him long term and commit big time money. They are also safe in case he suffers any type of injury that may stunt his progression. Not to mention that if Johnson really wants outta there, he'll be an RFA and Columbus will receive a serious return.

It's not a slap in the face, bud. Bridge deals work.

in theory, you're absolutely correct. Example - JvR is an absolute steal for the Leafs right now (you're welcome Toronto ), and when Homer inked him to the contract he was ripped for it. Turns out Homer was right. I'm not a Homer guy at all, and I'm glad he's no longer the shot caller, but he was right. That's a perfect example as to what you're saying.

the problem is, I don't think he wants a reasonable long-term deal for what he's contributed. I think he wants to get paid.

"Via Portzline: Johansen's agent, Kurt Overhardt, recently extended a second contract offer to the Blue Jackets, sources have told The Dispatch. It's a two-year contract, or a "bridge" deal -- the type Johansen called a 'slap in the face' late last month."

Thanks for playing Ryan.

Kudos to Jarmo and the agent for getting to this point and discussing a bridge deal.

He'd still have at least 2 RFA years left, you dummy.
