IMO, Lindy has turned Vanek into a one trick pony and really limited his game. Vanek has more to offer.

Look at who Ryan is playing with compared to Rick Nash, though. If Nash had Ryan Getzlaf, either on his line or not, his numbers would go way up. Nash is a dynamic player that can take over a game by himself. Playing with even slight upgrades as Ennis, Hodgson, Vanek, Pominville, or even Stafford (of course, one or two of these names would probably be gone) Ryan doesn't strike me as that, not yet anyway.

Plus, I would think that Vanek would go the other way as part of the deal if Nash were to come here. The salary is basically a wash. I'd do it simply for something different.

If Nash wanted to come to Buffalo ( which he doesn't) I would do a straight up deal for Vanek. With all things considering, If Ryan wanted to play in Buffalo, I'd do Vanek straight up for him before I'd trade Pominville +.

And other than Rick Nash, I'm not in a hurry to acquire any one of them. Look, I'm not saying I don't like the guy or what he brings. I'm just saying that his body of work doesn't merit the "untouchable" status that certain people are way too eager to give him. He hasn't done anything poorly. He really hasn't done anything great either. Is all of that his fault? No. If Pominville were really good enough to be untouchable, we wouldn't need to blame Regier as much for not having a deeper roster. He'd be "the guy". The fact is, though, he's not. He's a complementary player on a contending team. A complement without a kingpin does your team no good, and if you can acquire that kingpin with that complementary player, you do it. We can debate whether Ryan, Nash, Getzlaf, or whoever else is good enough to be that kingpin, but the fact that Pominville is being held as on their level (and he is, by saying you wouldn't give him up for any of these players) is a gross overvaluation, and you don't win Cups that way.

We want to beleive that because we have an awesome owner and awesome fans that every big time player wants to be here now, and we want that demonstrated at every opportunity.
