Hes getting 26M in 346 days. Thats a lot of money.
- stveshdy

Predators are also going to wind up making money in those 346 days, or the 26 million will wind up being cutback somewhere in between those 346. Again, not saying that Nashville won't match it. But there's so many people, not just Flyers fans, that think it's a guarantee he's in Philly next season.

This 26 million thing is blown out of proportion. He's only getting 14 million next year and if the season continues on schedule, next years revenues go towards him. If not, rollback would cut his costs. That plus the fact that they to reach the cap floor regardless. Plus one of the minority owners of the Predators is apparently one of the richest people in Canada.

Without Weber, they can kiss any kind of revenue good bye.

- _Zippy_

my understanding is rollbacks do not count towards signing bonuses (that money is untouchable)... is that correct? So lets say there was a 20% rollback next season weber would be paid $13 million in bonus + $800,000 in salary (20% of $1,000,000)

Its not a guarantee but thats a lot of money for a small market team to pay one player in a year. They didnt want to sign him to a 3 year 21 M dollar contract last season and now they want to give him 26M in less than a year?

For the money he'll be putting out, why doesn't he just buy the darn team and move it to Hamilton?

The Predators made $26mm last season on ticket revenues and reportedly lost $7-10mm on the year overall. Out of the $27mm Weber can earn in the next year, only $1mm of it is in danger of any kind of rollback. Signing bonuses don't get rolled back.

Even with a hugely rich owner, if they draw exactly the same as last year, they will lose a ton of money by matching between now and July 1st of next year.

I know. It's a lot of money. But then at the same time, they just lost Suter as well. They lose Weber, their best defensemen is Hal Gill, and they lose all the strides both on-ice and in terms of their fan base they have made. Also, someone pointed out a 12% minority owner, Tom Wilson, has a lot of money and bought that share in Nashville in November. I still think they match it out of necessity, because there's a good chance if they do, they will make the money back in revenue, and if not, I doubt there's any revenue for Nashville.

Maybe cause buying the team will cost well over 150 million as opposed to paying half or a quarter of Weber's salary.

Not Bourdon or Walker though
- Richieattack18

Meszaros is better than a late 1. I put him at a late 1 and late 3.

Laughton is a 1, but a 1 that hits the rink 4 years earlier for your franchise than the 2016 #1

So you get Meszaros and Laughton now instead of a firs in 2015 and 2016.

the 2013 first rd pick is the same.

the 2014 3rd, MAB and the extra value on the Meszaros swap is the 205 #1, but we have them take Walker to clear our books and give them $ towards the floor.

Is that understandable?

Ok, here's the deal. Meszaros, MAB, Laughton, 2013 1st, 2014 3rd and they have to take walker.
- jstross

They aren't taking Walker.

The number of teams involved doesn't in any way indicate that the Preds were shopping Weber. All 5 of those teams could have been the instigator of the conversations about Weber. Neither does the language used in a blog indicate that the Preds were shopping Weber. When your having trouble signing a top player to a contract, you answer the phone. A good GM listens to what any other GM has to say. None of that indicates that the Preds were shopping Weber.

You said yourself, "we're all just speculating". Why do you have to jump all over and try to disprove my take on it? I could be right. I don't think you are in a position to refute or confirm any of the speculation on this, including mine.

I'd agree with that. If it goes through the weekend, there is talks going on about a deal.
- MJL

Interesting...MJL, here's an example of what you might say to me if I posted a similar statement (only you happened to disagree with it):

---------
"You don't know that. Nothing about the situation would indicate that there would be a deal talks if it goes through the weekend.
When you're considering the fate of the franchise, you take your time. Taking through the weekend would not indicate deal talks."
----------

Now, is that really necessary MJL? I mean, we're all speculating, right?

I have my take, you have yours. I don't need you trolling all my posts and trying to disprove my speculative opinions with nothing to back it up except your own speculative opinions. Ok?

They still have to reach the floor. They are going to have to give out this money regardless. Maybe now they pay probably a bit more then they'd want to, but they are still have 14 million to hit the floor.

All I'm saying is there is still a really solid chance Nashville matches, if i had to put a number on it. It's 60% Nashville, 40% Philly at this point.

You know what also says trouble?

Losing your top two defensemen in one off season and kissing all future revenues good bye as they would have to go into total rebuild, probably with mediocre 20-30 draft picks.
