He deserves all of it. Poile did a piss poor job of managing his assets, his # 1 job, and he'll be fired soon enough because of it. Maybe he can join the Flyers ranks a la Lombardi.

Both Suter & Weber got to this point because Poile was afraid to make a decision one way or the other. Put his blind faith that Suter would re-sign, after he refused all season, and let Weber get to RFA ignorant of the fact that 29 other GMs would not throw an offer sheet on the table. Poiles offseason strategy was strictly based on hope.

You simply don't know that. Everyone here is saying that they won't match because they can't afford the upfront money. What do you think Weber and Suter were looking for in their deals? None of us know what Weber or Suter were offered by Nashville. Or what Poile was allowed to offer either player. Some fans seem to think they know more then an NHL GM knows about how the League works.

I agree. MJL can disagree and say we don't know what's going on behind the scenes all he wants. Fact is Suter went for nothing and Weber is signed to an offer sheet of monumental proportions. Weber and Suter both made it clear they wanted Nashville to spend on talent the last few years... And they flat out didn't. No one can argue that. The opportunities were always there. They never got the UFAs, they sat out on Carter twice. Blew a first on Gaustad. And hoped to get by with Radulov and Kostitson. Poile definitely played a role in creating the landscape in which neither player would choose to return.

not so sure of that. If Weber himself comes out and expresses it, the fans might start being against matching

its the Schenn Bros, book it

They won't do it if he is signed to an offer sheet lol... They will call bluff on Nashville to not match the offer. The Flyers are fine with Weber staying in the West, book it

Here's what else I can say. Is it a fact that Poile had complete control over what moves the team made. And had carte blanch and a blank checkbook to make whatever offers he wanted to, to keep both Suter and Weber?

" Hello Paul Holmgren "

"Hey Paul Mr. Poile here"

"Oh hey Poile (sorry don't know his first name) what can I do for you"

"Well Paul we are going to match your offer sheet to Shea, I am willing to work things out since you obviously are in want of our players services."

"Ok Poile you got yourselves a great player there. Good luck this upcoming season. Maybe we will meet in the SCF's."

Poile is taking a lot of criticism here, and I'm not sure that it's warranted. He's been in a gun fight with a water pistol. He's at a poker table with a short stack. the big stack always bullies the short stack. Even if he's an equal player to his opponent.
- MJL

I think he deserves some criticism. Maybe not as much as he's getting, but some.

He had lots of time to lock up both Weber and Suter before they hit free agency and he failed. Rather spectacularly in the case of Weber - that $4M arbitration offer was absurd, and to compare him to Yandle, etc. is asinine.

If had offered say, $6.2M to Suter and $6.8M to Weber last year, they both would probably still be Preds. Those were big numbers last year, and would have seemed like overpaying. But they seem like a steal now given what has transpired. For a team that supposedly has the money to match any offer sheet, they were pretty stupid with how they used it. If not outright stupid, at least very short-sighted not to have anticipated the rise in FA salaries that occurs every single year.

Well not that I expected to hear anything today anyway, given the tragic events that occurred early this morning, Id imagine whatever decision was made would be held up for a day or 2......
