I'm looking at it from Nashville's view.

Option 1. 4 1st rounders
Option 2. 2 1st rounders, Voracek, MAB

Either option isnt going to make an immediate impact for the Preds. The Flyers are refusing to trade Read, Couturier, or Schenn. So does making Option 2 really help the Preds? The Flyers don't need to overpay in a trade. They have an offer sheet in thats monsterous. I just think the Flyers know the offer sheet cant be matched.

Flyers 80%
Preds 20%

do we really know what the flyers are trading? I think both GMs have discussed this trade for months

But (according to this thing we have no way of knowing is real or not, so ehhh......), apparently expenses went up by 22M. It looks like expenses are outrising the revenue.

I assume the salary cap would address some of that.

Apparently, Canucks thought seriously about offer sheet but decided not to as NSH would match for sure:

And from Burnside on the ESPN site: "Multiple sources told ESPN.com on Thursday that they believe the ownership group has no choice but to breathe deep and match the offer sheet."

I am depressing myself.

I'm throwing out that trade proposal now that the offer sheet has been signed. Why would the Flyers offer any of their young core when Weber signed the sheet? The Flyers dont need to do anything but call Nashville's bluff and see if they match.

I would not trade any valuable assets then Voracek if they wanted to do a deal and even then I'm hesitent b/c I don't feel the Preds can match this offer.

I am curious - where did you get these figures? Apparently, the city of NSH has asked the club for profit and loss statements on several times and been rebuffed. (Many sports companies do not reveal such figures).

Also, your figures can be read another way. Since 2005-6, (essentially the Suter/Weber/Rinne era) the revenues have gone up by 11 mil odd. Assume that with 2 of the 3 gone, they will fall that much, and every year. In fact they may fall by more because in those days the franchise was going North and now there will be a death whiff about it. If they they don't reduce hockey expenses, then that is a loss of 66 m over 6 years, not too different from the 68 m in bonus money due to Weber.

Yes, it going to be rough for 1 year, but most worthwhile businesses can find money to tide over a crisis if the long run fundamentals are good.

I would put my vote squarely in the match column.

- PT21

Suter, Rhine, and weber were not getting those mega deals...bottom line is look at the loses...it costs more to run a team than player salaries. Also my friend the only reason their revenues went up is dude to the revenue sharing in the league....All their other venues of making money have been the same!

Is that the Kovalchuk rule or something that was in the CBA when first written? If it was already there, why was there a fiasco with Kovalchuk?
- eayost

Looking at the deal from just years and money....how is it any different from the parise/suter deals? Whats strange about it is the amount of signing bonus money early on. But that doesn't affect cap hit if its allocated in signing bonus or salary right? So bottom line I see no difference in the deal as opposed to the Wild's dealings.

If this was true the agreement would of been done already. Nashville is trying to match but they probably cant so they will hold out hope that Homer trades them some players to save face. I would tell Nashville we tried making a deal and I'm not giving up those players. So match the offer and pay Weber or dont.

They can call Homers bluff and say we're going to match the offer. Homer's team is set pretty much. The Flyers have Nashville pinned down, Nashville can't threaten the Flyers.

To me its Weber or nothing. I'm not trading pieces. Match or Dont match.

- stveshdy

I don't want t see the Flyers give up anything but draft choices but I do believe that something is being negotiated regarding compensation that includes players, not draft picks, for Nashville to decline matching the offer sheet. While I agree with other posts that stated the advantage is more in the Flyers favor, Nashville has some cards to play knowing how the Flyers want Weber.

Totally agree. Also besides looking at it from a money standpoint, do you sign a guy who wants to leave?

IMO, Nashville has nothing to go on. They tried to strong arm Homer in making a deal and they couldnt agree. Nashville was then warned an offer sheet would be coming. I'm not sure they expected the Flyers to throw the kitchen sink at Weber but thats what they did. The Flyers will be fine with or without Weber. The decision is up to Nashville. I would not trade any valuable assets thats just me. I'm not against other peoples ideas but I just dont see the need to cave to Nashville.

I believe Homer has an idea of who he is willing to trade to acquire Weber now just as much he did a few weeks. I don't think it is a poker game regarding match the offer or don't and just get the draft picks. This isn't Dustin Penner. I think the Flyers really want Weber and would be willing to put some players together to ensure they get their man.

His agent has stated that he would be agreeable to coming back to the organization and that fences could be mended so to say.....he left that door open.
