The same Gillis who refuse to trade us Cody Hogdson dummb ass
- Kuleminator

He still accepted signifiantly less than Hodgy was worth.

And after Lu came out and said to everyone: trade me, Gillis can't have Lu around next season, too much of a distraction.

hes almost 25.... hes like another bozak or stalberg tops
- Mapleleafs_91

And burrows was the same age when he first played in the league. Take away the 2-3 years lost from his college shinnanegans and you're talking a whole different proposition. He may be a bust, but he plays the game in a way that few others in the our organisation do....

Neither of them worth Bernier, nor is Frattin. Come on man, lets not overrate a 25 year old 3rd liner.

After watching what happened with the RFA signing of Webber, you gotta believe that the powers that be, at the NHL Head Office, is in no mood to have this kind of preditorial behaviour continue. Saying this, I can only believe that a labour stoppage is about to happen, this fall. Whether the season is saved by Christmas, or lost, this kind of cap circumvention will kill hockey. The teams that have the money and can front load, will destroy the teams that are at the floor and can't afford a huge signing bonus to keep a star player.

Why is this important on this topic of Leafs goaltenders? Why waste prospects on a Luongo, when the team isn't going to make the playoffs anyway. Why destroy your draft position, and cap, by bringing in a goaltender, on the downslop of his career? The Bernier situation, although different, is also unneccessary. There is no proof that he will be expedentially more better or consistant than Reimer and Scrivens. So why waste an asset, when the season is a writeoff? Leafs should just stay the course and wait until the CBA has been decided. Unless a major trade happens, that puts the Leafs into playoff contention, then changing the goaltending equation is redundent.

try him out for a full season, maybe if the dumbasses of coaches like wilson would of given him a spot to see what he can do for a full season and not to some scrubs who will be here no more than a year or two ........ put him on the 2nd line for a full season and let him progress by himself

Ok what about this, Parise, Suter and now Weber (hypothetical examples) all want trades in four years. They're all 31 years old with nine and ten years left on their deals. They are only worth salary cap dumps because their contracts are somehow considered bad and too long? They are great players and they deserve a good return, same with Lu who just turned 33.
- LeftCoaster

I get what you're saying here except the market for Lu only seems to be 2-3 teams, (as reported anyways). Not a whole lot of bargaining power, but I agree Vancouver isn't just going to give him away but they can't expect fair value.

no because none of them in 4 years will likely be getting replace by your own team... its your team that has made lu's value bad... if hes that good... why are you replacing him with schnieder... a different canucks fan was arguing luongo was top 5 in the league... so i asked him if schnieder is top 4 then because you wouldnt be replacing him if luo was that good
- DarcyTucker16

Because they deem Schneider to be just as good, but younger and cheaper. You can't say that won't happen to any of the players I mentioned, it happens to every NHL player at some point.

i hope offer sheets become popular... would prevent this idea that getting last in the league is somehow a good thing... YOUR LAST.. your the worst... thats a terrible thing to be... why are fanbases proud of it... at least if offer sheeting became common they would have to either buck up the money or continuously draft in teh 1st round and have a team of all 18-21 year olds
- DarcyTucker16

I hate the way it is set up now, it is embarrassing. You should not be rewarded for being last.

I agreed. He won't get full value for him, but he won't let him go for a cap dump. Doesn't make sense! If you're taking on the salary of a bad player then just keep Lu and his salary, at least he's a good player. If he doesn't want to be there, well to bad, suck it up. Business is business.

Your comparing frattin to a guy that got drafted in the 1st round, is 6'3 and 215 pounds and your saying oooo frattin fits our system big bodied winger... than tell me what ashton is hmmm? Kadri obviously has the higher ceiling and has more upside and potential then frattin... kadri has skill that doesnt just fall from trees and has playmaking abilities and excellent vision and that good pass. Kadri is more of a setter even if hes not cut out to be a centerman he will be a good winger who sets the play. Frattin is just a big solid guy on his skates who can get those cheeky goals but looks like a mere 3rd line winger. That is all.
