After the Comiskey family sold the team to Veeck in 59 the Comiskey name wasn't used as much...

...by the time I started going to games as a boy in the early 70's Sox Park was the norm, although many still called the ballpark Comiskey.

I hate calling the new park "the Cell"...too damn corporate.

So what do you call the building the Hawks play in? Blackhawks Stadium?

Geez Rico, throwing a bunch of softies at Al.... I think he can tackle the tougher questions....lol

All the talk about who can be the #2 centerman, who can replace an ineffective Crawford, who can win faceoffs and which "prospect" has the best chance of contributing is fun, especially in July. But I'm afraid this kind of stuff matters little, if at all......Hope I'm wrong.

It's more than obvious Q and StanBowPops&McD are not on the same page. Add that the organizational structure is littered with bureaucracy. Until this is addressed it looks as though any additions are just putting a finger in a dike.

OK, OK - Weeghman Park.

Don't get all "Wimpy" on me.

- StLBravesFan

Weeghman was 1914-20 actually, but who's counting.

And who's this Wimpy character?

Well, before the parent Co. stepped in, the joint at 1901 W. Madison St. was going to be named "New Chicago Stadium". Thankfully United threw out some cash, cuz as much as UC is a 'nice' new place, it's nothing compared to the barn.

Wimpy's, I tink, was the chain of cafeterias owned by Weeghman - provided the money that let him form the Whales and start the Wrigley Field process

I still catch myself calling it "The Stadium"...old habits, otherwise just U.C.

I call "the Cell" Comiskey.

demp might have an "agreement " with theo & jed, "go to ??? , let us get a nice return & we'll re sign you to a "friendly" contract in the off season so you can finish it off for the next couple as a cub !
garza, i'm not so sure i trade him unless i could fleece the yankees or who ever for a top pitching prospectt or 2.he's young enough to build around.
back to demp, i think theo wants the dodgers top catching prospect in the deal so he can shop soto. he'll roll with clev ( the next koye no hit hill) untill he gets a top flight catcher. that is what i am hearing is what is holding up the dodgers right now.
switch it up boys, do you think the hawks have enough to start out the season with what they have and be a stronger team if they only add roberto luongo, which i have a feeling is gonna come out of no where now that the big kiss ass fest is over, yes/no?gillis may soon start to have to lower his price and stans ass may start to feel warm also! i have often said with a guy like luongo in the cage last spring , that hawks team had enough to beat phoenix and probably go up against LA in the WCF,yes/no?

- wonthecup10

Gillis probably noticed what Columbus got for Nash - 3 scrubs and a #1 pick.

What can he expect for Luongo now? I don't even think there are many teams even interested in taking Roberto's contract, let alone giving up good players for him.

And what makes it even worse for him is that he really can't take any bad contracts back in exchange with only $3MM in cap space. The whole point of him dumping Lu is to give him more cap to work with.

Seems to me the Hawks could use another goalie. Eddie Lack is still unsigned because he wants a one way deal. Offer sheet a possibility for him??? No compensation is required in the way of draft picks because of his current salary. $1.5MM would do it.

Seems to a lot of us a plan B goalie would be kind of nice. Does not seem to be a concern for the Hawk's front office.

Talk about putting the hurt on Vancouver....

If the Hawks were to offer sheet Lack and Vancouver does not match, they are either stuck with Lu, or if they manage to move Lu, they'd have no backup for Schneider.

If Vancouver matches an offer sheet, what cap they have left is even more diminished, and they face the prospect of having to carry three goalies on their NHL roster.

I think the expression that fits....Gillis is hung.

BTW....the players the Jackets got back are of more value than what Gillis will receive.

Dubinsky brings an effort always and Arsimov has some upside....Gillis would be really lucky to do as well.

While I like the idea of putting the hurt on Vancouver and I think Lack will be a legit NHL goaltender - how can we offer sheet a player $1.5 million when we don't have the necessary draft picks for compensation? Stan will not be signing any RFAs to an offer sheet this season, let's move on.

That is the beauty of this deal - no compensation with draft picks is required because he makes less than the minimum required for compensation.

Sign him for 3yrs at $1.5MM. Stan??

How they gonna OS anyone? SB seems to have blown the chance to OS anyone other than the highest ($8.4M+) or lowest (<$1.1M) by coughing up the 2nd and 3rd rounders in '13 on the JO deal.

$1,110,249 or below - No Compensation
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 - 3rd round pick
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 - 2nd round pick
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 - 1st round pick, 3rd
Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 - Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd

Over $8,410,976 - Four 1st Round Picks

Gotta have your own picks as comp if the incumbent team doesn't match. Think Chevy is just going to trade those back to SB?

Lack's cap hit is $900K. He falls under the no comp tier. And any QO Vancouver offers him as an RFA must be a one way deal.

So they'd OS him for $1.1M? So what, they'd match. It wouldn't work. If the 'Hawks FO thought for instance he'd be worth $3M and the 'Hawks had the space AND the 2nd rounder, fine. But in order to put them in a pickle, it'd have to be more than $4M and that'd cost a 1st and a 3rd; which the 3rd the 'Hawks don't have either ... unless they can get that pick back from Chevy in WPG in a separate deal.

I could be wrong, but I think the compensation is based upon the value of the most recent contract and not what the offer sheet's proposed salary would be.

And they may not just match, because in order to do so it must be a one way NHL contract, forcing VAN to have three goalies on the roster.

Stan has nothing to lose to even throw an offer sheet out for a dollar less than the third round tier requirement. Emery is on a two way deal.

I am betting Lack wants to play NHL hockey, and Gillis can't guarantee him that.

No better spot to be in than signing a hungry talented goalie eager to prove his value and to push C2 as well as be an upgrade over Emery for reasonable money.

It is based upon the new offer. So as long as the offer amount is $1,110,249 or less per year, there is no comp required.
