We're slowing down here - need a new blog.

Or the Blackhawks to do something.

Under the current CBA terms he can't re-negotiate the contract he just signed.
- shruew

Apparently there is a clause somewhere that allows the addition of some form of NTC. Friedman has been tweeting about it. Although it appears that both sides have to agree and I have no idea why Nashville would.

ha ha - he can sting them more by taking the $13 million signing bonus and deciding to sit out the season (losing only $1 million in income and decreasing his trade value) before deciding to play next season and collecting another $13 million signing bonus. In a fit of anger I had already thought of that
- moylander

I think you'd have a case for not paying a signing bonus to someone who isn't honoring the contract which dictates the payment of said bonus.

I would only agree for the first 4-5 years if at all...

I would have let him walk. (frank) him and the Flyers. Big mistake matching IMO.

>Agree
>Preds are 20th in league attendance and couldn't even get to 100% in their best year ever
>Preds are subsidized by the City of Nashville already
>Preds investors are warned that there could be "a call for capital infusion" at any time -- well they just got that call
>Preds roster has very little upfront -- looks like years of mediocrity to me or another, "Hello, Columbus."

If Weber really wanted a NTC he shouldn't have signed the offer sheet....Which would have been stupid.

He isn't going to be traded, at least until his the front end money is paid.

Can't have everything....And sitting out a year isn't really an option.

- Al

LOL....NTC...what $100 million not enough for ya....blame your agent and don't tip him.

Don't remember the numbers - too hungry to look - but wasn't it like $14MM for the first year or two? At $50 per ticket, that's about 7,000 per game. NOT including food, parking, sweater sales, etc. Or perhaps extra TV rights fees - maybe an extra round of play-offs.

Can Weber do that for Preds?

Personally, I believe that once the head coach and his "chinese fire drill" concept for line juggling are gone, then we'll see this as a destination for free agents once again...

Hopefully this "concept" is gone sooner, rather than later....

To some degree Nashville seems to be in a lose-lose situation.

Without matching the Preds get what...4 first round picks that will likely be very late in the first round.

By matching they pay out the nose for one year.

If smart the Preds do not give Weber a NTC anytime soon, then they can put his services on the market in July of 2013. It's possible the Preds get a better deal in players and picks this time next year.

In which case the cash out is huge, but at least they have assets coming back following one more year with Weber on the roster.

One thing is certain, Poile should beach-slap Holmgren the next time he runs into him.

Bingo...

I still pine for the salad days of youth when I could go a Sox game with 10 bucks and come home with change.

But Ogi...

...it seems that could be turned around. Aren't the Flyers and Weber getting F'd by having the offer sheet matched?

Flyers don't get their stud...
Weber doesn't get out of Nashville...
Nashville still controls him for at least a year and can trade him to Columbus next year...

...now that would be funny.

If Weber wants out of Nashville, best way is to sign there for one year - UFA after that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nashville matched the Flyers offer sheet. That means Weber is under contract with Nashville for 14 yrs. and 110 million.

There can be no one year deal...it's done.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Nashville next season - I think 12 UFA/RFA's next season. Could be ripe for offer sheets, who knows. I think they may have put themselves in a bind... but then again I don't care. I'm moving on. Not Philly's problem.

Could have a gotten a foot long dog and a dozen donut holes at Franksville outside Wrigley, and had enough left for a little something later.

>Believe it is $27 million cash in just under one year -- the first year payment of $14 million is Thursday, payment 2 is July, 1st, 2013, for $13 million
>Deal calls for $80 million cash over the first six years -- contract is very front loaded
>Preds talking big, but the $ cash needed really hurts them -- there is a very likely chance they will be floor spenders for awhile
>Huge issue is that Weber doesn't want to be there and knows that it will take a perfect year in every way just for them to ever have a real chance at the Cup
>What do the Preds do when Weber pulls a Rick Nash in year 2 or 3 -- if the Preds indeed stink?
