Who cares what comes out of his mouth? It's pr bs-whether you agree with him or not. The convention is for kids and diehards. I don't care if they tout Kyle beach, brandon saad or sergei krivofrickinkrasov. It's about generating publicity and creating a buzz. that's mcd's job. He's pretty good at it. Why hold him accountable for the decisions of Scotty bowman, Stan bowman, and Joel quenneville? Why hold him accountable for ANYTHING he says that's on-ice related? Why hold him accountable at all? - miked23
Because he's now admitted to being at least partially responsible.
"McDonough will celebrate his five-year anniversary leading the team in November and has begun taking a more active role in hockey operations."
"I'm trying," McDonough said. "When I say an active role from a decision-making standpoint, the only role I play is by the time they have reached the decision I ask how they've arrived at it. What was the thought process behind it? I just have to make sure there's a process and a system involved."

This is why every Hawk fan should care.

It shows where the dysfunction starts. It shows that the stewardess is making decisions on how the plane should be flown.

Because it's obvious that McD has to stick his d1ck in the middle of personnel decisions. That's why he's accountable.

McD has had his own "adviser" for on-ice personnel since he came on. He's been involved with decisions as to what players to put on this team. Something he doesn't have knowledge about. - EKolb13
So what? He wants to learn more. He said nothing about ACTUALLY making decisions. Nor even influencing them. he said he wants to understand the process. He's the president. That's prudent managing.
We rip Scotty b and q constantly. Don't you want their bosses making informed evaluations about THEIR decisions? Scottybbowman sucks. Toews Kane sharp hoss Keith and Serbs have failed us recently as much as the front office. Mc d keeps us relavent with the avg fan. For that he should be commended

A better question would be: Does McD review the systems and processes that lead to Stan repeatedly failing to pull the trigger on trades?
By the way McCub was credited w/ inventing the 7th inning celebrity guest conductor concept at Wrigley Field...gee another winner...funny in his bio it never mentions he played hockey and knows how to grade on ice talent.

I wish Chris Kuc would have put McD on the spot and asked him if has veto authority over personnel decisions that Bowman proposes. He conveniently stopped short of saying that implying that he does not which I don't believe for a minute.
If anyone is wondering why this front office is paralyzed, there's a big part of the answer.
How about you hire competent hockey people, give them a budget to work within, and let them do their jobs. If they fail, you replace them. - John Jaeckel
That right there is as simple a solution you can have.
McD was hired to revamp the sour image of the Hawks, which was Dollar Bills doing. Rocky could have saved a lot of money cause all he needed to do was just put all the games on TV. That did it for me and the rehireing of the Great Foley.
