Just now, say since the inactivity & results going back to the draft? Or a couple months before?

Cuz if its the latter, he's as guilty as anyone. Said it before a few times. He's gotta do a Ricketts/Theo thing.

But now wouldn't be the time (regardless of the CBA), during the CF's / SCF would have been the time.

So looking ahead several months, who do you believe is the "Theo of present day GM's?" Who could be pried away, elevated to Prez & have McD kicked out of the hockey war room, just like C.Kenney?

Nice write up as always, I'm just starting to get pissed!

Still shocked q made it through that. Now convinced he shouldnt have.

Imagine if it happens again and he has to go midseason. You end up having to replace an entire staff, because asshats #2 and #3 cant replace him. Its the dumbest succession plan the hawks could have.

Q used up a a lot of political capital and fan good will with Kompon. He is now officially part of the problem, no question.
- John Jaeckel

Is this revealing Q as the bigger problem ....i know the front office is (frank)ed but could the bigger problem have been behind the bench all along

It wouldn't have hurt to have tired him as a head coach. They should have canned Q after the 9 game losing streak and let Haviland be the interim coach for the rest of last season. Then we would have known if he could have done the job or not.
- EKolb13

Agree. I would have liked to see him had the chance.

I forget his full name, but one of my most cherished books in my collection, was Career Misconduct by Mark Weinberg. It offered a introspective on more than just Bill Wirtz' rule over the Hawks organization. It pieced together years of Bill Wirtz' actions that led to the power he had in Chicago, with the sports franchises, professional boxing, property along the lake front, and the NHL's old school ownership crust. This book chipped off a 30-40 year span of his career, and in neatly organized sections presented a redux for readers to understand the more focused on points of the downfall of his reign in the 90s with the lack of televised home games, exit of players named Belfour, Roenick, Amonte, and Chelios.

I always remember buying his Blue Line publications for a $1 outside the Stadium and then Center before Weinberg just stopped wasting his efforts and money. He was truly a pioneer and one of the guys that helped the fans of Chicago realize what was happening behind closed doors and with the organization that wasn't covered in the traditional press credentialed outlets of the Trib or Sun Times. That spat between Weiberg and Wirtz and co. Reminds me alot of the crap that Islanders blogger went through earlier this year.

Anywho, JJ, I really enjoy your pieces and while I may differ in opinions occasionally, that is what keeps me coming back. This piece is a perfect example of what we all come here for. A view of some of the things that we may piece together from various outlets, but you do your research, get your scoops, and compile them in her dot argue facts that point to the erosion of the dynasty core that was formed in a few short years, after many many many dismal years fans of this franchise were so happy to put behind us. Just like that this cyclical window of the franchise seems to be closing while McD and StanBo put another can of plutonium in the Delorium, and hit the pedal leading us back to the future.

Understanding the seeds planted in the past 5 years, what's been ripped out and why we are reliving some of the same drama of a power hungry organization that can hide behind a marketing campaign, a similar campaign that's plagued the lovable organization McD came from, yet many refuse to uncover and make public. Thank you for keeping us informed of ripples out at sea and how they equate to the waves we see on shore.

Thank you for making your blog one of the best sources for Blackhawks family matters that impact the product we support and pay to see. I think you have one of the most interesting and best blogs on this site. Keep doing what you are doing.

If Rocky does nothing to right this thing he then becomes part of the problem as well.

I have heard:

Winnik
Torrey Mitchell
Konopka
McClement
Nash was asked by Howson to put them back on his "list" and he refused

Konopka picked the twin cities over Chicago? Are we in the twilight zone here?

Wow Kompon found another job, looks like the Hawks won't ever score more than two goals a game, and get ready for the PP that will never produce. Really feel for you guys you're in trouble with that guy, he can't make in game adjustments or even between game adjustments.

The Kings only became better after Sutter made him the in-game interview monkey and ran the offense for him.

Again really feel for you in Chicago too bad.

- onac22

The coaching staff...all three could be gone 1/3 of the way in if anywhere near as bad as we fear. Silver lining of sorts, I guess.

Cant wait to hear the enthusiastic Kitchen and Kompon talking with Edzo and Foley before the start of the third periods this year. Maybe CSN can just show us shots of Sarah Kustok instead.

"I don’t know a lot about much. But I do know the longterm Hawk fan and their psyche quite well. I believe they will make their displeasure known loudly at the Annual Lovefest known as the Fan Convention this weekend. " - JJ

I hope you're right JJ , I hope the management gets "Booed" and hope one of y'all puts it on youtube because you know the Hawks will try and hide that if it does happen.

Im always the guy trying to spin things in a positive manner but I'm agreeing with you more often. I still like some things with this organization but my patience is wearing thin. Its been a LONG time coming now where everyone and their mom can see we need a #2 center and it simply is not being addressed properly. This offseason is starting to chap my A$$ also. Cmon Stan do something.

It's crazy to think that players dont want to play in Chicago. With all that this team has, for our front office to just blow it like that. We are coming off a Stanley Cup, have one of the best/youngest Captains in the game, have stars in Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, have fans that pack the arena every night, and are an original 6 team. I just cant comprehend how terrible this front office is, to not only loose out on tier 1 FAs, but 2-3, and have Nash reject any trade that brings him to Chi. We give Bowman s**t for not going out and getting players, but it looks like he's trying, but no one is receptive to coming. I would have to think, absolutely hate it, to think that the front office and lack of leadership off the ice is driving Toews to the point where he can't wait for FA to get the hell outta here. Great read JJ, but really something tough for me to swallow and tough to believe it's that bad (more not wanting to believe than actually believing). To go from such a high to such a low so quickly. If it is what you are saying, it could be a destruction of the Hawks

Not to stick up for Bowman but there seems to be an absolute standstill in the NHL when it comes to signings and trades right now, not just with the Hawks.

Kept reading, and reading and reading waiting to read the words Rocky Wirtz. Finally in the very last sentence, the only damn name that matters...... I'm not gonna blame StanBow. I'm not gonna blame ScottBow. I'm not gonna blame McD. I'm not gonna blame Q.

Rocky these are your people, and they have failed.
