He's OK, but with Monty and Oduya already here, he's not really the kind of D man we need. Need more size/toughness. We need a Seabrook understudy.

I hear his brother is available.

Plus why would the Hawks potentially upset the one team that has been willing to deal with them in the past by tendering an offer sheet to E. Kane?

Seems like a bad idea.

- AceRatbang

Again, the Hawks do not have the picks to send out an offer sheet, unless they intend to pay Evander Kane Weber type money. That isn't going to happen.

Winnipeg isn't the only team Bowman has made a trade with. He's also made deals with Minnesota, Ottawa, Florida, Buffalo, Calgary and the Rangers.

Keith Seabrook? Good lord. Career AHL guy. I have the pleasure of watching that guy a few times a season.

I know, I was kidding. I watched him play juniors against us here sometimes. Not bad, not great. Smaller than Brent.

His name though is a top notch D-pairing all by itself...

He's good in his own end, but shoots wide/high on the PP?

If that's the case, he would fit right in with most of our point men.

That Vancouver Giants team he played for was a nightmare for Spokane to play against. Getzlaf and him overlapped briefly. A lot of talent on that team.

Actually, I think Lalonde plays better defense than Keith Seabrook.

With that thought, I'm out. See you all later.

Wouldn't that be awkward, calling Chevaldae to arrange a trade to get your 2nd/3rd round picks back so you can put in an offer sheet for E. Kane...

Since when have the Hawks and our organization turned into the Calgary Flames? Or the Columbus Blue Jackets!?

From the tone of JJ's thread and most of the posters, you'd think the Hawks are a collection of bums who aren't good enough to play in a beer league, let alone in the NHL. The armchair GM mentality with this fan base (at least here) is almost laughable!!! Sad and annoying if you ask me...Of the 2nd tier F/A jags who didn't sign here, I say who the F cares? They aren't the players that will take this team to a Cup win anyway, yet everyone whines and complains about who we didn't get!

If the Hawks are building their team in the Detroit model of draft and develop, which has been their stated goal, then none of what Stan and Co. has done or hasn't done, especially with the current state of the NHL and CBA, should NOT be a surprise to anyone. On paper, the Hawks have a nice stable of prospects, and I know I'll get crucified for saying that, but come on…No matter what the Hawks do, or don’t do, everyone sucks and they all need to go!!!???

Last I checked, Sharp was only 30! That's NOT old...so let’s all start worrying about his tail off in 5 years!?

As for Kompon, I'm not surprised at all with the hiring of a Q crony...but who's to say he's going to come in and run our PP? Can anyone definitively say what his role is going to be at this point? Maybe after the convention that will be answered? If anyone knows, or goes to the convention, that would be some nice info to share! Perhaps he'll help install a better defensive system similar to what the Kings deploy, which could be a positive for the Hawks and Crawford.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Bowman or management apologist, and I like all of you would have liked to see more than a Brookbank signing. That said, Brookbank is an upgrade to an ancient OD and an unreliable Lepisto. The fact that almost the entire roster from last year's team returns, minus the dead weight players (OD, Lepisto, Brunette), perhaps we'll finally see Q be able to find some consistency in his line combos, similar to the '08-09 and '09-10 seasons...Big if I know, but it is entirely plausible as well. The Hawks team back then was VERY young, and talented, but had very little playoff experience. This Hawks team is a year older, more mature, rested, and should be pissed off!!! Until the Hawks lay a steaming pile of crap (Eli - please insert your image for me) during the season...I'll continue to have a half glass full attitude with this team, assuming there will even be a season!!!

Lastly, what have the teams in our division done to improve? Last I checked...nothing! In fact, the Wings are substantially weaker and older this season and scare nobody anymore. What free agents did the mighty Ken Holland land? The Preds are going to be weaker as well in losing Suter and now perhaps Weber, and are the Blues really as good as they were last year? I'm not 100% sold on that either as their goalies played out of their minds during the regular season, but stunk in the playoffs! That’s why they play the games gents…and sadly, so many of you have already seemingly written off this Hawks team.

Keith
Sharp
Toews

No Kane.

You forgot to mention that Cup team was Bigger, Stronger, Nastier to play against and was way More physical. Until the size, strength, and grit is addressed you're looking at a good to very good regular season team, with no ability to win in the playoffs. That's the sad reality. The other reality is that it is those second tier FA's that you so readily dismiss as "jags" that could provide the things this team lacks. They ARE what would make this team a viable ontender again. The fact that they are unable, for whatever reason, to land those types of players is a major red flag. Someone or something is to blame for this (looking at you Stan...Q...McD?) and that cannot stand. The core is phenomenal, but they can't do it alone. They need fricking help! Badly. The Ladd's, Byf's, Niemi's and Eager's of the world have yet to be effectively replaced. They don't need anymore stars, they need solid, role players. Not prospects, but actual, viable NHL players. So far this off season has been an epic failure, and the outrage expressed by fans on this site and others like it, is fully justified. If you don't like it, you'd better either stop visiting, or brace yourself. I don't see the mood improving anytime soon.

So to sum up...yes, until some major things change, I'm writing off this team as going no where fast...at least not in the post season, and isn't that really the only season that matters?
