Some of the nastiest cheap shots taken by other teams were with Scott in the lineup. Players may not want to fight him but that didnt stop them from taking shots. At all... Best way to pay that stuff back is to score goals and target the other teams skill guys. Which is what we used to have on this team. - ilinkhawk
It seems all the rage to try to micro manage all this stuff...the on ice/off ice non sense stuff. And I am not trying to be combative hockey., but this is stuff is all resolved if/when a team plays like a team and hockey players play hockey.
Intimidation and other stuff is as much part of sports as any other part of life. I recall kicking this over with Al throughout all of last season. The solution to much of this is simply deciding to play a certain way and playing it. Q's obsession with matchups is the biggest symptom of a mentally weak team. Like many worry worts...I envision Q like many who post here only focus on what a guy CAN'T do and not what he might or can. This pervades how the team plays.
Nonsense and other stops, when the Hawks decide to simply as grown men, match the intensity of the opponent. Be willing to pay the price. In addition, it requires the Hawks to learn how to step on throats and take some of the crap that is given to them and motivate them to dismantle teams with their superior talent. That is right...7 or 8 out of every 10 games the hawks are the more talented team on the ice. The other 2 or 3 times it is a draw.
Of course you want the team to be tougher/play tougher...but its about men going to battle with one another. It is not like they are a bunch of little girls playing grown men. This whole toughness thing has turned into hyperbole. I know you can't make some guys fight, but most of the crap is about competing. That starts with the coach.
Scott, Bollig, Holyfield, Tyson whoever will make no difference it your team has no identity or no balls to simply compete. |

The Hawks don't have the picks to hand out an offer sheet. Unless you advocate paying Evander Kane Weber type money. - EKolb13
Is that right? E. Kane won't cost 4 firsts like Weber...
I have no idea what picks the Hawks have in reserve for future drafts...just asking really.
Hawks dropping an offer sheet would be a nice change...add a bit of excitement to a dull hockey summer. |

Here's the compensation chat for RFA's for the '11-'12 season (those numbers could be a bit higher this summer):
$1,034,249 annual cap hit or less: No compensation
$1,034,249 — $1,567,043: Third-round pick
$1,567,043 — $3,134,088: Second-round pick
$3,134,088 — $4,701,131: First and third-round pick
$4,701,131 — $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 — $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks
The Hawks would need their own 2nd and 3rd round picks (the ones traded in the Oduya deal) in order to field an offer sheet to a player unless that offer is less than a $1,034,249 cap hit or more than a $7,835,219 cap hit.
We all know that Evander Kane won't sign an offer sheet for less than the $1,034,249 cap hit. Bowman could give Kane an offer sheet for a $7,835,219 cap hit or higher. That's the only way the Hawks can give any player an offer sheet this summer. |

My take is if an offer sheet is coming E. Kane will be dealt first. |

OK...like I said, didn't know what picks the Hawks still have going forward. Figure E. Kane would sign for around 4M per which is what...
...one first plus a second, ect. |

After Dallas walks away from him? The Hawks lack the pick for compensation for a cap number like that. |

It's already bad enough Bowman coughed up a 2nd and 3rd for him. |

What are your guys' thought on Campoli (aside form the bad turnover that lives in infamy)? I thought he was a solid D-man. Isn't he a free agent? |

This team already has 7 defensemen. Unless one is moved, there is no reason to really discuss it. |

I liked Campoli while he was here but I don't see a place for him on this roster (barring a trade). Oduya is a upgrade over Campoli so it worked out well. |

I was speculating as to one being moved, since Hammer and Leddy have been talked about pretty heavily. |

Plus why would the Hawks potentially upset the one team that has been willing to deal with them in the past by tendering an offer sheet to E. Kane?
Seems like a bad idea. |

Well, one would have to be moved first. When one is moved, it all depends on who's left on the free agent market. If I had my druthers, I'd take Hannan over Campoli. |

He's OK, but with Monty and Oduya already here, he's not really the kind of D man we need. Need more size/toughness. We need a Seabrook understudy. |
