The positions of Goalie, top 6 power forward or #2 center are the teams gaping holes. Those positions have to be "big name" acquisitions or damn close to it. Unless you're suggesting another Brunette type move to fill those holes.
- EKolb13

I'm not suggesting they not be big name fillers, but there are no big names of those positions out there (aside from Doan). Suter was not a fix, nor was Parise. It feels like he just went after them because they were the top 2 names.

Suter would have improved the defense. While the defensive unit the Hawks have is good, signing Suter would have made it even better, and would have made Leddy or Hajlmarsson expendable. Maybe both of them. You can move talent like that to fill other holes.

Parise isn't a power forward, but he has one hell of a two way game is is another weapon this team could have used. Parise also plays center.

What's wrong with trying to shoot for the best of the bunch?

My question is: Why do you allow your girlfriend to call a penalty a "foul" when watching a game with you?

Because she looks like Katherine McPhee.

DT: So what you're saying is, I build the team, but you get all the credit?
JM: That's what i'm saying
DT: How are you going to spin that?
JM: Dude, really? The Cubs drew 3M fans during a 95 loss season. I'm pretty deceptive

The best of the bunch didn't fill our needs as well as others could have. It just looks like more of a PR move. They would have improved the team, but not exactly where it is needed. Of course, getting nothing is also not an improvement.

That's the real (frank)ing issue. Trying to argue over Suter and Parise isn't.

DT: We're one year away from a Stanley Cup.

Well the bigger problem is out of those missing pieces 2.5 should have been easy to acquire.

Maybe not a 2C but a depth C that can win draws, kill penalties and bring stability just in case would have been nice and not difficult to acquire. A big winger who can skate and kill penalties and mash people and play some top 6 minutes would be nice. Again, with the assets they have that type of player is probably available.

I am fine with Kane at 2C but leaving Toews and Mayers as the only decent face off options is stupid. Very very stupid.

After Sharp LW is a barren wasteland of maybes, probably, should be's and crap.

Relying on Bollig or Bickell or Stalberg or Saad or Hayes or whoever is on their 50 man roster to be that hard forchecking/wearing down of other teams defenders force? Maybe they are a revelation but nothing consistent or proven there.

Crawford year one or Crawford year two... honestly flip a coin on that.

The pieces they are missing are the difference between being a playoff team and having the necessary depth to move forward. MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE some of these kids will have epiphanies, MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE health wont be an issue, but that is a serious gamble to take on a team that has the top end talent to go deep this year.

Which all points to a GM that overvalues his roster and draft picks.

That's why not enough was done at the trade deadline and not much at all this summer.

And this is why Bowman just trying to land a big name is infuriating. Just fix the problems we have. Everyone can see them. It isn't that hard.
- JRoenick97

Sounds like he has tried to get some 2nd or 3rd tier players just not willing to "over pay" for proven NHL talent which is kind of stupid at this point.

Saad / Danault / McNeil / Kruger / Stalberg / Leddy / Hammer / Picks are worth reliable players to win the Cup this year and compete for the next one.

Obviously depends on the return but whatever strokes are in charge here are either so incompetent they cant see what needs to be done or so arrogant they think that their chosen ones will be good enough.

It's really silly at this point. And pretending to throw in on those two free agents, while either would have been nice, seems like a BS reason to sit on their hands.
