I just looked at the 2005 CBA. It says:
- DixonWard

guess that answers that.

Kind of a dumb rule if you ask me. It almost punishes the team if they cant afford to match it.

I think they match it by 9am and hes traded by dinner time.

Also from CBA:
The Prior Club may not Trade that Restricted Free Agent for a period of one year from the date it exercises its Right of First Refusal.

Its either sign him or receive (4) 1st round picks.

I too think its ridiculous that they cant sign and trade him right away. Or that they cant trade his rights for another team to match that offer. They almost get nothing to help the team now if they financially cant afford it.

"Luke Schenn makes $3.6 million per season, but if Weber joins the Flyers, Schenn will be just the sixth-highest-paid defenceman on Philadelphia behind Weber, Kimmo Timonen, Chris Pronger, Braydon Coburn, and Andrej Meszaros. Throw Niklas Grossman into the fix and the Flyers have seven defencemen with a cap hit of $3.5 million or higher."

http://realsports.ca/blog...aking-shea-weber-is-rich/

They are going to be wheeling and dealing if they get Weber.

- GilPerreault

Would not be surprised to see Kimmo traded. Hes a 6.3M cap hit for 1 more year. Would be a pretty good piece to even go after Bobby Ryan... that would suck.

LOL. The Ducks arent even gonna entertain a offer centered around Kimmo. Only way Bobby Ryan goes to Philly is if Couturier is part of a package. Or a Ryan package for a Package of the Schenn's.

I don't remember where I heard this...
But they supposedly asked us for pominville & sekera

There's no way in hell i would've done that bc I didn't think he'd sign...
But if his cap hit is right around 7mil...
I'd do that in a heartbeat

I like pominville & I think Sekera is going to be a bargain at 2.8mil per (Carle 5.5... Wtf?)

But getting Weber takes a TON of pressure off Myers & let's him develop more slowly
Ehrhoff-S.Weber
McNabb-Myers
For the next 5-10years?
F#ck ya!
It wouldn't even matter who our 3rd pair was...
But something like Brennan-Pysyk could be nice...
Or maybe u get Leopold or Regehr to stay on cheap like Patrick & Teppo did & help mentor the youngsters

Our defense would be sick

An to replace Pommer... Grigorenko can play RW too
And if u wanted him at center...
Armia is NHL-ready even though he's at least a year or 2 away from actually being here

Really? I think Doan has earned the ability to take his time on this. He is one of the most respected players in the league and a very devout family man who's family is imbedded in the Phoenix community and charities in the area. If he is having problems with the thought of uprooting his family then I think he should be allowed to take his time and consider his options..

The only people that have an issue with it is hack journalist and bloggers who have nothing to write and are looking to create a story out of nothing..

The flip-side to that argument is that it opens up a can of worms in regards to collusion, though. Say it were Detroit that made the offersheet, trading his rights to a team that would match, say Buffalo, just so he'd stay out of the Central Division, would probably cause legal issues and more headaches than they're worth. You make an offersheet in part based on the situation of the team that has the RFA's rights. The whole strategy changes if you could trade them after the offersheet. If that were the case, the only offersheets that could ever work would possibly be the ones with the maximum allowed by the CBA.

Exactly, moving on. Moving on to a fresh, new, non-inflamatory, different topic.

Should we hang on to Miller, knowing that next season he will most likely stand on his head to make the Olympic team? Will his Vezina form return if there is something on the line that he feels is worth playing for? Will someone take this post seriously?

Best one yet for me. It was my 5th time seeing them.

And yes homie, the encore was great. Some of their lesser played songs sprinkled with a little Sgt Peppers. Great stuff

There's no way that's all it took. If it did, that deal would have been done already. They're getting far more for simply not matching the offersheet if they choose to go that route.

Man... of all the things that we complain about Darcy for, this is tops on my list. He easily could have made the move to offer sheet Weber.

Really good move for Philly, and based on the reports of a huge first year it puts a lot of pressure on Nashville. They may not be able to match, but if you do match you are certainly not going to dish out $26 million and then trade him this time next year. And all Philly would give up is two 1's, a 2nd and a 3rd? Great deal.

If Philly does sign him, it sure makes me wonder whether Briere's time on the team will be coming to and end. Philly's top 3 centers are going to be Giroux, Couturier and Schenn in the very near future. Do you move Briere to the wing? Or do you trade him? Or do you trade Couturier and Mejzaros to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan, keeping Briere as your #2?

Let's hope Darcy decides this is a race now.

Bolded part is wrong. The compensation is the average of the contract over the entire term, or 5 years, whichever is less. So 100 million/5 years is a 20 million average for calculating compensation, so the highest compensation there is (4 firsts I think)
