I think you don't know how good Schneider is.
- micah555

I know he's not a top five goalie. I also know that nobody knows how good he will be in a full season as the go to guy.

I'd agree with everything, except Schneider. He is definitely nowhere near top 5 in the league. You cannot deem a goalie top 5 in the league when he hasn't even been a starter yet. That is an unfair amount of pressure to put on a goalie going into his first season as a starter. Don't get me wrong here, Schneider is a very good goalie, and i'm sure he will be a very solid and successful starter. But come on now, top 5? He is playing in front of one of the best top 4's in the league, with some of the best defensive forwards in the league. My top 5 in no particular order is Quick, Lundqvist, Rinne, Price, and Thomas. Backstrom is right there too.

Deals with Toronto are not allowed, sorry my rules

I was thinking more along the lines of these:

1. Sign Doan to a four year 5 million per deal. (he's worth it)
2. Trade Edler, Hansen and a 1st for Weber. (wishful thinking I know)
3. Trade for TJ Oshie. (no idea if that's even possible with our sh!tty assets)
4. Trade Luongo to Florida for Colby Robak, a 1st and a 3rd.
5. Trade Raymond to Cow Town for a 2nd.

14 years, "north of $100 million" with Philly. Apperently Canucks were in the mix. This all according to Darren Dreger

Nashville will match... Weber will have a big year next year and Nashville can trade him to the highest bidder for a kings ransom.

There is no chance that Nashville lets him go for 4 25-30 draft picks.

Whichever team he ends up on means he's off the market for quite some time...possibly 14 years.

What happened to everyone wanting to play for the Canucks? Between turn downs and trade requests it's pretty hard to claim that these days.

He could still be dealt to the Canucks.. just not this year... Nashville is not going to let him walk.. which could even be 2 1sts... 2nd and 3rd... NOT a chance.

I love how some points are only used when they suit ones argument.

I dont think theres a team thread on HB that bashes the oilers worse. U know, ' your defence is terrible, petry is awful, schultz only signed cause he'll get top minutes' etc etc etc.
So with the canucks defence clearly being established as way better than the oilers...dubnyks pretty good, but less than stellar numbers in relation to schneiders on the pres. tropy team dont get a reprieve?

I guess i forgot. Schneider will be a top 5 goalie in the game even though he hasnt been a true # 1 yet.

At this point, i take cory over devan, but not by that much as theyre both unproven over the grind of even 1 full season

I'd take Tuuka Rask over Schneider in a heartbeat. The guy hands down stole the starting job in Boston for a year from Tim Thomas. Thomas is extremely competitive, and losing the job to Rask that year motivated him beyond our recognition to the point of his stellar record breaking play the year before last and his Conn Smythe winning performance. That was his statement to everyone that doubted him after the year before, and I now believe he will retire and be proud of it.

Obviously you are entitled to your opinion... and I imagine Rask will be a very good goalie. But I would take Bostons D-core over Vancouvers any day of the week... Chara alone is equal to about 4 of Vancouver Defense. Its no coincidence that both goalies have had very steller numbers the last few years... I think a good defensive system helps with the numbers.

Schneider and Rask are two very good goalies... who we have yet to see how either can handle a full load... on a consistent basis. We will find out in a few years who ends up being better.. but I'm very happy with Schneider and its safe to say Schneider is better than Dubnyk at the very least.

I've never heard Weber wanted to play for the Nucks (heard the reverse actually). And even so, not everyone has a magnet that needs to point them back home at some point down the track.

The terms I've just seen were 14 years for 109m, or 7.78m per. Dreger mentioned that 1 of those years could net Weber 26m. That is a heavy heavy cap hit for a defenseman. I'll state right now that Weber is not worth that, at least not for 14 consecutive years. He'll definitely have to earn his money in PHI with the run and gun style that they play.

4 firsts

Compensation (NHL)

When a player accepts an offer sheet and his team declines to match the value of the contract, his former team is entitled to draft pick compensation in the next upcoming draft or drafts based on the averaged yearly salary of the contract. This averaged annual salary is determined by dividing the total compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five.

$100 million/5years=20 million average=4 firsts

If Nash. matches they wont be trading him for years, or ever. You don't pay him 26 mil. for 1 year and then trade him. Vantel is right, he will be in Nash. for the rest of his career. I think it works out to 7.8/yr, compared to Suter 7.5 or Campbell 7.1

I knew you were secretly MG.

Well, at least if it's next year we will see if either can get a full season of healthy/consistent hockey in.
