Our 'back-up' is better than your starter.
- Marwood

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you over who's better. I simply pointed out schneider has seen limited action in the nhl as a back-up on one of the best teams in the league. All signs point to him being very good but let's see if he can maintain his impressive stats as a starter before you anoint him as top 5 in the league.

Just a reminder to everyone to keep it polite. This is a Canucks blog (despite the picture). No one needs to love the Oilers (or even love the Canucks) in here, but you do need to respect each other and the blogger.

"After Whitney and Smid there isn't anything to hang your hat on."

No offense, but Petry and Nick Schultz are nothing to sneeze at either. I won't waste time comparing the 2 teams because it's obvious that Van is a better team, but we are closing the gap.

- SuperM

Nick Schultz is solid no doubt. But Petry is awful. there are a few teams in the ahl where he would be no better then a #4 d man. Just cause the oilers are forced to put him out there due to lack of options, doesn't make him decent

If you want an unbiased opinion (because I hate the Canucks and Habs equally), I would take Price every time over Schneider...pretty sure every GM in the league would.

Canucks fans, you need to understand how good your team is. If you put Price on the Nucks and Schneider on the Habs the results would be ridiculous.

Petry is young and makes his share of mistakes as every young player does, I certainly wouldnt classify him as aweful though. He improved dramatically as last year went on.

Okay, i guess you didn't watch Petry play in the second half last year, because he was our second best D behind Smid. I know our D is weak, but not because of Petry. He is still young and developing nicely.

Oh, well that settles it, because you hate both the Canucks and the Habs equally, and you would take Price over Schneider every time, and you're "pretty sure" that every GM in the league would too it must be true. I would take Schneider over Kiprusoff every time, and I'm pretty sure every GM in the league would too.

Ouch, a bit grumpy this am? I'd take Schneider over Price... as for the other GM's, only Ek knows that one.

Schneider: 68 GP, 1880 Shots, .928 save %

Dubnyk: 101 GP, 3062 Shots, .910 save %

Given that the goalies played on completely opposite ends of the standings, I'm not sure that these two are so uncomparable.

I love Schneids as much as anyone, but I think we should hold off calling him top 5 in the NHL until he runs a full season as the starter. I definitely think he can get there... Maybe even this season... But let's keep the expectations in check a bit.
- nucks_94

Agreed. He has top 5 potential but until he's starting 60+ games per season while maintaining his stat line, we can't exactly make that distinction.

Once again. Ian is on some good drugs.

Bieksa, Hamhuis, Garrison, Edler the best top 4 D in the league? Schneider in contention for the Vezina?

As for Edmontons D: N Schultz was great after his trade to Edmonton. Will have a great year. Petry stepped up in the last half of the year as well. I think Edmonton's D will surprise a lot of the naysayers.

I guess time will tell

To be fair, he said one of the best, not the best... I haven't really ranked top 4's or anything, but I know Vancouver does have a pretty decent one. Behind LA, but they're not bad.

As for Schneider... What are people's top 5 if he is in there?
