I'd take Tuuka Rask over Schneider in a heartbeat. The guy hands down stole the starting job in Boston for a year from Tim Thomas. Thomas is extremely competitive, and losing the job to Rask that year motivated him beyond our recognition to the point of his stellar record breaking play the year before last and his Conn Smythe winning performance. That was his statement to everyone that doubted him after the year before, and I now believe he will retire and be proud of it.

Good luck with that. The kid is a head-case, and definitely a step below Schneider.

Schneider stole the starting job from Luongo...who is an extremely competitive guy, as well...so I don't see how that makes Rask better than Schneider.

It's ok. We have Weber lite, aka Alex Edler. If only he could grow a killer beard.

How did he steal it? When?

They lost the first 2 and decided to try somethin different. Luongo didnt play poorly in either game. They only fared 1 win better with cory. Sedin happened to also be in the lineup.

This offseason? Lu asked for a trade did he not?

At this moment, schneider is not the number 1. Technically no one is.
And if gillis continues to ask for the type of return we've been hearing, luongo might still be a canuck come october.
He outplays cory in preseason and he very well could be the starter again

If only he would give his nut sack a tug and play like a big man! That's what Weber does, makes his team a harder team to play against. Edler is very very talented when he puts it all together, but he's a major wussy!

He stole it. It was something that began during the regular season, with Cory getting the more important games, and it was sealed in the post season. Cory Schneider is the Canucks number 1, and it is widely known.

The bridges have been burned with Luongo. He'll never be the number 1 in Vancouver again, because he doesn't want to be—he wants out of town.

I think Edler plays huge. He may not be quite as nasty as Weber, but he hits big.

At the beginning of the season, analysts and fans were clamouring over him, and he was in the norris discussion. For whatever reason, he couldn't keep it up. I think it has a bit to do with his back issues, and Salo not having the gas he used to—Edler's play started to drop after Salo's concussion.

I don't think people realize that Weber has played with another elite defenceman his whole career—I'm a big Salo fan, but he isn't as fleet-footed or durable as he used to be, which means Edler has to set the tone physically all by himself.

Edler the first 35 games of last season was definitely close to Weber's level. If he can ever keep it up, look out.

He hits like a freight train yes, I have no issues with the way he plays when he plays well. Just wish he would stick up for his teammates, and by that I don't mean fighting. Just be harder to play against and don't be afraid to stand up to guys in front of the net when someone needs a helping hand don't be chasing butterflies in the corner like a chicken chit.

Owners want 25% roll back on salaries but are handing out 100 million dollar deals like it's going out of style. Figure that one out.

Wow, Weber getting 56 mil over the first 4 years, including 13mil upfront each season. Can the Preds afford that?

, he can't help himself with the butterflies thing. I mean can't blame him our whole team is like that. When the going gets tough, it's every msn for himself. I see people wondering why the Canucks and redwings don't sign the big names it's because of this, stars want to be free to play hockey, here they are free to get punched in the face with no consequence to the culprit.

Tessier brought up a good point. Can Preds still trade his rights?

Doubt it, he's signed a contract. They could trade him after next year though.

I've never heard Weber wanted to play for the Nucks (heard the reverse actually). And even so, not everyone has a magnet that needs to point them back home at some point down the track.

The terms I've just seen were 14 years for 109m, or 7.78m per. Dreger mentioned that 1 of those years could net Weber 26m. That is a heavy heavy cap hit for a defenseman. I'll state right now that Weber is not worth that, at least not for 14 consecutive years. He'll definitely have to earn his money in PHI with the run and gun style that they play.

The point was the Canucks were interested and Weber wasnt....
