not sure if it would be in the will or the organizations legal work, but comcast isn't just going to automatically get nearly a billion dollars that belongs to snider.

I'm not even thinking in terms of dollars and cents i was thinking along the lines of personnel and decision making.

True but I think the Russians of the 70s would get beat even worse by a Flyers team today. Their conditioning is not even close to what it is now. You also have to take into account that Shero was ahead of his time with his advanced scouting of opponents via video and what not. There are more resources for coaches today as well as more hockey games that have been played that they can learn from.
- NickTheKid87

I dont disagree with anything your saying. All that is true. I'm just saying that sometimes you have to admit a more committed team, or a more tanacious team can beat the more skilled team. That is why you can't discount the 70's bullies. While they might not be able to match todays guys skill wise, did Giroux ever have to go out on the ice with Dave Shultz? Did these guys ever have to play in a league when there was no instigation penality? Do teams have the unity the 70's bullies had where and I quote, "If the first guy off the plane had to pee, we all went pee, we were that close."

With a company like that, there are succession plans in place.

The Russians were fitness fanatics back in those days. Not sure what you're trying to say.
- JoeRussomanno

Fitness in general has advanced with technology and time. Being a fitness fanatic in 1976 and being a fitness fanatic in 2012 is a lot different.

I do agree with that. I just think they wouldn't be able to keep up with a team today over 60 minutes, especially with the rules the way they are. You can't put a value on teamwork though.

all that's really advanced is nutrition or performance ehancement and that's across the board. So really it levels the playing field. When you say fitness in general, I'm gonna take it that you mean in sports, because otherwise As for being fit not much has really changed, there's only so many ways to do a pushup and so on and so forth.

Tell that to the general population in the US today... lol. Tell that to the pitchers that need 5 days rest instead of guys that used to go out every other day....

In fact aren't the "best" athletes coming out of like Kenya today? Im not sure they are so modern.

I went with:

1. Ontario
2. USA
3. Sweden
Last: Alberta.

- MBFlyerfan

I went Ontario, Sweden, and USA with Alberta last.
USA and Sweden might possibly flip flop.
Lindros, Kerr, Pronger, and the count just huge and physical. 3 big guys who can and would play nasty. Kerr while not nasty was huge guy to try and move from in front of the net.
I think the D pairing of Ontario and the skill up front would make up for the deficiency in net.

I mean in sports . As far as the best athletes coming from Kenya, athleticism has nothing to do with fitness necessarily. You can be fat and be athletic or be jacked and suck at every sport you've ever tried to play.

I think that is the Key. The Bullies might have a chance if they are the "home team" and get to play with the rules from thier era. Where Clarke can break ankles on the faceoff, head shots are preferred, and if you looked at someone the wrong way, you were getting jumped.

If anything, that old Russian team would kick the dog snot out of any NHL team if they played by today's rules. As much as I love the Flyers and proud I am of them beating the Russians, let's face it, they did so by gooning it up. IF that game was officiated by today's referees I don't think the Bullies pull it off.

Definitely. The new rules favor skilled teams and that's what the Soviet team was. The Bullies would have a hard time competing in general with the NHL rules as they are today.

The best shape I was ever in through my whole life was coming out of Basic training. We didn't use any high tech gidgets and gizmos unless you count a M-16 rifle as a high tech fitness training device. It was pretty much good ol'fashioned elbow grease. Years later I'm doing my best michelin man look alike impression

I gotta go with Quebec. I mean talk about puck skills. Giroux setting up Playoff Briere and Gagne... with Desjardan moving the puck to them, and the best goalie in Flyers history stopping the puck.... Just sick.

I hate that it's the Flyers fault that Jody Shelley has a job, for two reasons. The above and the fact that they gave him a contract.

But at the same time if todays teams had to play by 70's rules they would have a hard time competing. Just think about adding that redline back. Now speed isn't as much of a factor. And the hitting is much more intense because your not wearing all that protection. A check is going to hurt the thrower almost as much as getting hit. I just dont think the athletes today could match the physicality and punishment received over a course of time...

The Flyers didn't invent the goon, or "tough" hockey. They just became the best at it.

That's the problem. When someone's good at something, others think they can be too or have to try. Otherwise, I don't think we see nearly as many goons as we do today.

I dont think Snider approves or denies all transactions. I think Snider may say do not move this guy, or go get this in the off-season. Other then that I think Homer has complete control. Just my opinion.
- RooNosHockey

The guy who writes the checks has complete control.
