Kind of funny that Bill covered his reason for moving Giroux to the Quebec team and noted that he's from Ontario and not Quebec, and that the solitary reason he made the move was because the player played in the Q, and it made the whole discussion more interesting by including a popular player and making a stronger team that would draw votes to win, where as with Simon Nolet instead of Giroux, Quebec is likely to be no better than 4th or 5th on most voters lists. - Jsaquella
He moved with his family to Ottawa. He first played junior with Cumberland near Orleans where he lived. He was not drafted by any major OHL team and was a walk on invite by Gatineau. It is a great story. It is not a negative to Bill or his story that Eastern Ontario is reluctant to give up their claim on him.
Woe to the team that tried to contain Lindros AND Kerr down low, with Pronger and Dailey on the points and Barber with virtual free reign in the offensive zone. - bmeltzer
With Lindros and Kerr the only question is who is front of the net?.......my vote is Kerr who I remember as not as good a skater as Lindros was...Lindros can do mostly board work with Barber and collect assists while Kerr racks up goal after goal.
Bill, if there was a combined Czeck/Slovak team, wouldn't Meszaros (2010-11/Barry Ashbee trophy) also deserve consideration - perhaps in place of "Cookie"?

That's my winner here - goalie issue notwithstanding.
Too bad we have to miss out on the talents of the "Latvian Laser" Oskars Bartulis and the "Norwegian Hammer" OK Tollefsen in this tourney. - NickTheKid87

Awesome blog bill. I think USA, Ontario, Quebec, and Sweden all round out the top 4 with USA Quebec, and Ontario with the best shot at winning, IMO. Some of these lineups have some damn good players that make it really tough to pick. I think Quebec has an edge with Bernie, but the skaters on USA and Ontario are just scary, so it could go to any one of those 3, IMO.

Seems some are taking this fun little exercise a bit too seriously. Obviously Quebec is screwed anyhow, because their goalie is in his mid 60's and Sweden's goalie has been dead for 27 years now.

If Giroux was left in the team Ontario pool, he doesn't even make the team. Giroux doesn't top Lindros or Kerr, based on the careers those players had, and to suggest he'd beat out Bill Barber is insanity.
There's a reason nobody's wearing number 7 for the Flyers again. - Jsaquella
