Sorry, I just really don't want to see him in the o & b and I knew I would. I can't see Nashville matching that offer. Homer best lock Giroux up this summer too because Poile won't have a short memory.

I guess Columbus is now our go-to-make-a-trade team.

Fortunately, Howson's in charge there, so he'll probably alleviate our salary issues and send us Ryan Johansen back, or something.

So that's why I couldn't get to sleep...

Weber must have been getting tired of waiting, too, for him to sign it.

The two teams have a good rapport trade-wise. This is very interesting (nod to watson).

And now, a musical interlude for you orators of all things Flyers (if you so choose) -

I'm actually floored they would do this to Poile. I'm also having trouble breathing

Actually, Weber's cap hit will be less than Parise and Suter.
- Jsaquella

Well Dreger didn't say what it was, just higher than 100 right? How do you know what his cap hit will be?

Nope. Weber will either be a Flyer or Predator next season, with a new 14 year deal. He can't be traded, renegotiate or anything else.
- Jsaquella

I like this strategy, actually now that its all laid out like that. Worse comes to worse you either loose a handful of picks, which is a hefty price or have front row seats to Weberthon 2013.

Gotta hand it to Homer. He never lets you down.

I'm feeling a little funky myself. As others have said, "Wow".

Paranoia bomb: Poile could be playing us here. Tell Weber to go out and ink a sheet with us, Poile will match, then he has cover to ink one of our guys to an offer sheet later down the line, and the league will look at it as retribution, rather than a Richard move.

If it's 14 years $100mm, his cap hit is $7.14mm. To get to $7.5mm hit, it would take an additional $5mm.

I can't find the tweets but when Free agency started and there was alll these crazy rumors I tweeted to Tocchet to tell homer to "put the crack-pipe down and go for Weber." He responded with (as memory serves) "weber is the guy."

My first inclincation is that this just makes it easy for Nashville to sign him...but if they don't.

I think that Poile would rather not have his hand forced like this.

Nashville will match... not a chance they don't... if they dont.. best case they get 4 draft picks in the 25-30 range... or possibly even 2 1sts.. a 2nd.. and a 3rd.

Nashville was trying to sign him long term... and anything with a cap hit lower than 7.5 million would be decent value.

Nashville matches... Weber plays next year.. possibly wins the Norris and then he gets traded for a kings ransom.

There's two possible ways Nashville may decide not to match. First is the number of years. Now, that I'm not sold on, because they reportedly offered Suter 13 years.

However, if the Flyers front loaded the poop out of this sheet, Nashville may simply not be able to afford it. What if the Flyers toss in a ridiculously high signing bonus? Or give Weber a massive salary on top of a huge bonus?

Well, Homer could have warned him he would do this. Dreger said numerous deadlines were passed.

Well if those numbers are true then I don't see how Nashville doesn't match. It was thought he would make more than that per year, I guess it will come down to years.

The more I look at that though I think Holmgren should have gone higher to make it near impossible for Nashville to match. Holmgren just made an enemy, and he might not end up with his guy.

It's also possible that Poile wanted the Flyers to do this. Stated that he offered Weber the best that he could, but couldn't afford what the Flyers offered. And they still walk away with 4 firsts. And it makes Homer/Flyers look like the bad guy, as opposed to the Poile just letting Weber walk away...

Whether or not it's against the "code", Polie has had plenty of time to get something done and he knew the risks.
