he hasn't participated in that competition since he only started playing in the playoffs.

hopefully kreider makes the rookie team and participates in that. then we could really compare.

i read 30 thoughts today and i find it really cool what your new coach is gonna do. he was saying how he believe in forward pairs not trios so he'd play eberle and RNH together along with hemsky and gagne and then bump hall/yakupov/smyth/jones/eager/horcoff around. should be interesting to see.

Dont forget age. Its been well established that defencemen take longer to develop than forwards. Even some truly great ones.
We used this argument tirelessly predraft against the onslaught of moron leaf/nuck fans telling us not to take yakupov. Shoe just happens to be on tbe other foot in this instance.

And yes, development isnt always linear, especially in dmen. Maybe he takes a step back. The same coulda been said about hall some nights last year after such a great rookie campaign.

Top end speed perhaps. If there were a stat on breakout speed-the first two or three strides- that's what I would be interested in. Being able to skate the fastest in an oval at a competition means far less than grabbing the puck and getting up to speed quickly or getting up the wing swiftly for an outlet pass. Not sure if you've watched Hall a lot- I won't claim I've watched Kreider a ton- but its ridiculous how fast he gets up to top speed, and he creates a lot of space for himself doing so. If his ultimate top speed is less than Kreiders, not really an issue. Ben Eager actually beat Hall at the skills competition in skating speed for example. Doesn't mean Eager creates more offence.

I don't know. The time for the Oilers to deal real NHL players for future has passed. The game plan should be to either stand pat and let the talent develop while tweaking the complimentary elements or sell some future for immediate help.

Hemsky and Gagner for futures is not a good move for the Oilers. Gagner is the kind of player the Oilers can't afford to move unless there's a plan to get a 2nd line centre to replace him.

Hemsky is able to play tough opposition and come out ahead. His career PPG average is just shy of Nash's. Hemsky is .77 to Nash's .81 and that comes after a horrid year for Hemsky.

Hemsky will enable coach Krueger to get the kids out against softer competition and gives opposing coaches an extra threat to consider when they're putting out their checkers.

Unless a Shea Weber is coming back the other way you hang onto Hemsky.

Are people really debating about who is faster between Kreider and Hall? Folks, they are two of the top skaters in the world. There is a point where people can only get so fast and these two are in that discussion.
Morale of the story, on any given day, one will marginally beat the other. Just accept tat they are both in the upper tier of great skaters.
