Let's look to the future...
After next season:
RFAs
Hodgson, Cody ($1,666,666)
Weber, Mike ($950,000)
Enroth, Jhonas ($675,000)
UFAs
Scott, John ($600,000)
Ellis, Matt ($525,000)
Regehr, Robyn ($4,020,000)
Leopold, Jordan ($3,000,000)
Pardy, Adam ($2,000,000)
Sulzer, Alex ($725,000)
Other than Hodgson and Regehr, do we resign anyone else?? - Jawallstar1
I think Leopold has a better shot than Regehr to be resigned; give McNabb Regehr's spot if he hasn't already secured a spot by the end of this season.
I could see them also reupping with Enroth, Sulzer, and Scott (if his enforcer role is successful). |

I think he would get claimed - shanekern03
His cap hit last year was 875, 000. He gets a 10% raise off of that automatically. Now, we're talking almost a million bucks.
He's played a grand total of 11 NHL games, and he's already 23 years old.
As I said, not many teams are going to be lining up to snatch a fringe NHL defenseman off waivers for a million bucks a year.

We can "place" him in the AHL before the season starts... ala Morrisson and Kotalik. But if we were to ever try to call him up to Buffalo he would then go through waivers. - JVince11
We've gone through this ad nauseum. He would have to clear waivers before going down. Here is the link showing Kotalik and Morrisonn from last year.

A two-way contract is a professional sports contract which stipulates that an athlete’s salary is dependent upon the league in which the athlete is assigned to play. This is opposed to a one-way contract that would pay the same salary regardless of where the athlete is assigned to play.[1]
Two-way contracts are common for professional ice hockey players who aspire to play in the National Hockey League (NHL).[2][3] Any hockey player entering the NHL for the first time will sign an entry level, two-way contract with an NHL team stipulating that he will receive a higher salary if assigned to play with the NHL team, but will receive a lower salary if assigned to play for a team in the minor leagues such as the AHL or the ECHL.[4]

Cody and Enroth are locks to be resigned...
Regehr OR Leopold i think should be brought back.. they are very solid 2nd pairing type veteran to have. If we lose both of them we need to keep Sulzer for having played in the system for 1.5 years IMO.
I think if Scott really does make a difference and his intimidation is felt and our players stay healthier because they know Scott is coming over the wall for his 15 seconds of fame each game.. i would want to resign him especially with McCormick and Kaleta having their issues.

I agree he isn't at the top of anyone's list but through the course of a season people get hurt and teams like Boston, Carolina, etc. are always looking to add puck-moving d-men and really that isn't too bad of a price even though he hasn't played very much in the NHL.

That statement is false and a very common misconception.
Do 1-Way and 2-Way contracts effect Waivers?
Simply put, no they do not. This is a common misconception. 1-way and 2-way contracts have nothing to do with waivers. They are for salary purposes between the AHL and NHL. The confusion is understandable, most players with 2-way contracts are waiver exempt because of the reasons above. Most players on 1-way contracts aren’t waiver exempt. Just keep in mind that the chart above is the only thing that determines a players waiver status. |

wrong wrong wrong
2 way just means one salary in the nhl and a lower one in the ahl.
Waivers is based on how long a player has been signed to a pro contract and games played. Period |

I suppose somebody could snatch him, yes. I'll give you that. But, in the grand scheme of things, losing Brennan wouldn't be the end of the world. We've got a ton of good prospects on D.
That being said, this signing reiterates the thoughts of pretty much everyone on these boards that the Sabres will trade one, if not more, defensemen before the season starts.

Don't forget Nashville, very cheap replacement to Suter
*Edit, poor choice of words with "Replacement". Should be more along the lines of roster fill. |
