RE: Detroit going on a big downswing.

Ok, then: a small downswing for a long time.

- Jacob582

with Prospects like Jurco,, Nyquist,Smith,Sproul coming up they will be fine imo

and now drafting Frk who should of been gone in the first round

so they did not get Ryan Suter ..

watch them get weber next year

Last Regier stated was that they are still working on the contract with Grigorenko. Z was different. He can play in Rochester this year. Grigorenko cannot.
- Jacob582

Doesnt matter. Even if they signed Grigs this year, he would earn an entry level slide if he went back to Juniors -- same thing as Armia since he wont be here this year. If Grigorenko was legitimately in the Sabres plans this season, hed be signed already. Especially after rookie camp. They dont think hes ready.

Girgensons signed because the Sabres felt he was ready for professional hockey. I wouldnt be surprised at all if we see Girgs in a Sabres uniform at some point next season.

i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that.

sure he says he only wants "to play NHL." if Sergei Fedorov comes knocking with a bunch of money, he's probably going to at least go to the door.

i don't think so IMO the guy just took a whole year 2-3 hours a day learning english

we just need him to sign soon .. so i don't have to see this bullsh!t

but yes eric you answer the door

They've lost Lidstrom, Rafalski and Stuart. Holmstrom is almost 40. Zetterberg, Franzen and Datsyuk are getting older. They haven't signed any impact free agents in a couple of seasons. I'd say they're on a bit of a downswing. They've still got some great pieces in place and the organization is still tops in the league, but they're certainly a team in transition these days.

that was my thought process, anyways.

i never took into account the fact that he's probably not ready and how that's affecting negotiations.

Yes they signed Girgensons because he is ready for professional hockey (having the option of the AHL). They are also working to sign Grigorenko. He will be going to the Q this year anyway because of the lockout. #CONFIRMED

Grigorenko said he would go back to the juniors if he didn't make the Sabres.

I see them in the playoffs this year too. In a few years they will no longer be the powerhouse they have been for decades. You mentioned some good prospects, but they have only drafted one prospect inside of 27th spot in the last 7 drafts. This hurts, since other teams are (theoretically) drafting better prospects at the top of the draft.

think we added an offensive defenseman in brennan to trade leopold and make him "expendable"? trading ennis+ to get ryan and rely on the g's as 2 and 3C?
