Why did the NHL originally refuse Kovy's contract? Any chance that happens to Weber's contract?
- Symba007

Something about it being TOO front loaded and that he was receiving around the minimum at the end.

It clearly was a way to bypass the CBA considering he obviously wouldn't play the last years (think the last 3-4 years was him over 40 years old playing for 500k).

I can't say where they draw the line though because with all the bonuses he is to receive, Weber's contract is just as absurd to me.

I don't see how this contract passes mustard. It's very similar to Kovalchuk's initial deal with the Devils that the league vetoed, whereby in the final years he's clearly not going to be playing for $1 million for 4 straight years. I wouldn't be shocked if the league vetos the offer sheet.

there was something about any drop from one year to the next can't be more than 50% of what the first year's pay was... i think.

She feels that this has gone on long enough. That Weber should sign immediately, or be forcibly signed by Wednesday next week.

And by "this", I mean "pregnancy". By "Weber", I mean "the baby". By "sign", I mean "be born", and by "be forcibly signed" I mean "will be induced".

i believe it also had to do with his age at the end of the contract and knowing that he would never play out those $1 million years. this one isnt as cut and dry.

Yes, the Kovalchuk contract was worse because he would have been paid under a million for the last 3-4 years at the league's minimum... so not even 1M.

If #Preds match Flyers offer, they must keep him 1 calendar yr before trying to trade him.

If they match the offer, you can be sure they won't trade him 1 year from now. That would be stupid.
