So Bernier has shown "glimpses of greatness," so has Reimer and Scrivens for that matter! In fact, Reimer's numbers are better than Bernier's while playing on a much weaker team and under extreme pressure and focus of media and fans alike in Toronto.

The ONLY REASON why Bernier has received more hype than Reimer is because Bernier was drafted so high (11th overall) SIX YEARS AGO AND HE'S STILL A BACK-UP with minimal playing time.

As far as you alluding to Bernier as "a franchise goalie" that's laughable. Both Reimer and Scrivens have shown "glimpses of greatness" and have just as much chance of becoming "a franchise goalie." The reason why Burke and Leafs fans might be interested in Bernier is for depth because that gives them a better chance of one of their goalies panning out. Secondly, this might also be a negotiation strategy with Gillis if those talks are on-going.

With regards to your Varlamov comparison, you're way off. Varlamov was considered the Caps' #1 over Neuvirth the season prior to being dealt and thought they'd hit the jackpot when Vokoun signed for what he did, while Bernier is widely known as a back-up who lost his opportunity to a 3rd rounder in Quick. So no, it's not the same and Bernier's price will not be a 1st rounder, especially not from the Leafs and not when Bernier has openly asked to be traded

Trust me, Toronto is all too familiar with trading for young and relatively unproven goalies with potential only to have it it blow up in their faces (See: Raycroft/Toskala/Pogge/Gustavsson etc.) and Bernier could just as easily be the next in line.

I think a number of people are interested, but ONLY at the right price.

As long as the Leafs don't fix their game in the D-zone, there is no goalie that will save them.

They'd make the playoffs with him. I don't know how many 1 goal leads they blew then lost on poopty little flutter shots. Cripes, THE MONSTER had a few doozies against the Sens in November alone.

Since Phaneuf was being judged as overrated for the last two seasons, he's now one of the most underrated defenseman in the league.

True story.
