It would be hard for me to justify paying a guy much more than the minimum to be essentially one dimensional.
About 30% of his goals come on the PP.
would there really be 2:00+ per night on the PP for him?
If he would sign for 1M or less, I could stomach that.
But anything more than that for a guy who doesn't kill penalties and we don't really have quality time for on the PP isn't a direction I would go, personally. - nails
One of the big issues against teams like NYR and BOS was getting a big body down low to occupy the defensemen, which allowed them to block more shots from the outside. If Arnott can be a big body and wreak havoc and occupy the defensemen, he could be pretty valuable on the PP |

True dat my brother.
If we have the cap room, using it on Rusty and a player like Arnott makes sense. A couple veterans to guide the kids makes sense.
I don't like Briere on the wing, and prefer Schenn there on the second line.
I would like to see Voracek also on Briere's line.

Still an opening at RW with Giroux then. |

Well, at this point, I doubt Fedotenko is going to eat up all of Jagr's PP minutes (sarcasm), so some of those minutes could conceivably be available for Arnott. - BringBack25
I would much rather see those minutes go to the kids |

I can bite on that point.
still would have to be a very reasonable cap hit. |

Yep. Having a big body like arnott in a clutch and grab league again isn't such a bad idea. I think the flyers have minimal interest. Unless they swing a weber dealing sending one of the kids out |

I have no objection to that, but I don't think that in and of itself is a reason not to bring in a guy who will help out big time at the dot, add some veteran leadership, and add size at the center position.
Hell, even if Arnott doesn't get any PP time (and consequently doesn't score as much), I'm still fine with bringing him in just for the size at the center spot and the face off skills. I would imagine we'd be looking for him to play a 3rd/4th line role on this team, not counting on him for a lot of offense and/or PP goals.
I would not be in favor of promising him a spot in the top 6, so if that's what he wants, I don't see him as a fit. |

Semin can actually play defense, when he's so inclined. |

Agreed.
My point is I don't want to pay him what he has been getting to essentially do less.
It's all about the cap hit to me, not about what he can bring to the table. |

Guessing that means Alex Semin is still holding out for a long term deal (or at least a longer term deal than teams have offered so far). |

I could go to $3.5mm or so, because in losing Jagr and Carle, they do have more flexibility, even with Jake getting a raise |

I'd be OK with Semin on a shorter term deal. He's not ideal, but the advanced stats show he can be a solid two way player. |

I would gladly bring him in.
I just think the fan base would crucify him on a regular basis |

I'm sure they would. But if he scored 45 goals and looked interested and seemed to play hard, I could see a bunch of Bros at Xfinity Live wearing "Jizz" Flyers shirsheys |

Same here.
Also, not that he'll ever be a Selke candidate, but some of the blame for his poor defense goes to Boudreau. Hardly anyone on that team was accountable for playing defense for most of his tenure. And Semin did play much better defensively under Hunter when it was made clear to everyone that defensive was required.
He wasn't my first choice, but he might be the best of what's left. |

How do you go from being jonathan cheechoo scoring 150 goals in 4 years with the sharks to being jonathan cheechoo with playing the last 2.5 season in the AHL? |

I think it is true that he's the best of what's left.
My gut tells me that the Flyers have no interest.
My gut, while on a roll, is also telling me that the Flyers will wait for the trade deadline.
