If you want a good laugh, go to Ek's main blog (been up for 20+ hours). There is a guy calling himself Van Damage, with a Van Dam type picture.
On a separate note, there was a great scene in the 40 year old virgin. "Do you know how I know you're?????????????"
The avatar comment and the movie comments are 100% unrelated - just putting pen to paper of my random funny thoughts today. Just a fan of the avatar and a fan of the movie. Not related at all. To be clear, NOT RELATED. - Daman[/img]

Briere has always been bad defensively, and I don't think that's ever changed in a big way. A lot can affect +/-...bad defensive play by the dmen, by the forwards, softies by the goalie, or just more production on special teams. You can look at +/- specifically, but you have to watch the games too. Look at what Bill said a couple posts back. The things that stand out about Briere is what he was able to create offensively. If the team is playing great team d, then it's not as big an issue.
Again, Briere's D play is not going to win or lose the team any games. - feelingkettle
Agreed. And if I need a big goal to tie a game, or win a game in OT, in the playoffs. There isn't many players I would choose over Briere to be out there. That's why I want him on my team come playoff time. It's that simple. The guy is simply money in the bank in clutch situations. |

So... just stay out of Philly then? - ChrisMS
Yea cause that stuff only happens in Philly... I would advise getting a redsox shirt and head down to the Yankee stadium parking lot, should be real safe. |

Damn faulty memory Thanks, but i'm still going to have to double check later. I remember the puck in transition, someone, maybe Gus then, skating toward the bench, then a quick outlet pass and game over - KINGKENZO
I'm pretty sure it was Gustafsson making the bad change behind the play. |

Perhaps you are not aware of the financial crisis, but I don't believe "money in the bank" is a valid saying anymore.

He gets it done offensively. Having lots of solid two way forwards is a good idea, but at the end of the day you need those spark plugs for when the puck just won't go. |

It is a flawed stat but not so much that it gets completely tossed out. If used in the right context it's and indicator of things.
In the case of Brind'Amour yes he played on some bad teams so those bad years don't affect his playoff numbers in regards to +/- in which he finished +7. In the case of Briere I don't think he's been on bad teams since coming to Philadelphia at least. - JoeRussomanno
He played on a piss poor defensive one last year. |

Good to see some people with a sense of humor. Glad to see not eveyrone has a stick up their butt.
Not saying those people with a stick are on these boards. To be clear, that is not the case. NOT AT ALL.
What I am saying is that everyone here is cool but you are a good example. And all those people with sticks are NOT HERE. |

That's something that most definitely needs to be and looks to have been addressed. Looking forward to how the season plays out. |

Sure it is. JP Morgan, even with factoring in monumental loss on the investment side, posted record profits last week. Wells Fargo and JP posted billions in profit. |

Totally agree on Briere. He's money. He's not great defensively, but we need what he brings. Simple as that.
The other day I was thinking of when he was signed here. I remember a debate raging wondering if we should get him or Gomez. Hindsight is 20/20, but wow, did Homer make the right call on MANY levels. |

It's very important to have a clutch player in your line up come PO time. Those who disappear during the post season usually don't get asked back.
See, e.g., one Alex Semin. |

Sorry.
Please continue with trades that will never happen, how bad Briere is on defense and good on offense, sign Hamels now, get er done with Semin (never going to happen), and a touch of last night's conversation on the tooth fairy.
Again, my sincere apologies and did not mean to make a joke about our financial system. Everything is in great shape, even though I heard congress tell the Fed Chairman to "get to work".
