Improved every year he played?
Look at the stats again....his highest point total was his rookie year.

He definitely has potential, and I think he slots into your #2C or #3C slot provided he doesn't want too much money...Oilers are gonna need all the money they can to lock up the big4...

I think people bash SG because of what some Oiler fans feel he is worth...it wasn't long ago some fans were saying he could pull in the 8th overall pick in trade straight up...or trades for top2 d-men...whereas if a Leaf fan proposed Tyler Bozak could get a top2 dman or top10 pick in the first round in trade they would be laughed off the board...yet their stats were VERY similar last year...

- BoBBeR56

So what you're claiming is that people bash the play of Sam Gagner specifically because of what some fans on the internet say he's worth?

Why are we not supposed to interpret that as trolling?

It's not improving every year...
Improving every year would be:
Year one .54 PPG
Year two .60 PPG
Year three .62 PPG
Year four .67 PPG

- BoBBeR56

I guess your putting words in my mouth now eh? When did I say improving every year?

I was talking about Gagner getting better. I could give two poops about Bozak.

How do you judge a player is better without the puck? Not shocked you don't know this.

- Lahey

What I meant by that is that it's nearly impossible to compare two players and how they play away from the puck...

Same pt can be made for Schultz-Karlsson then budddddddddddddddyyyyyyyy!
- saskoil21

really, you think that one full season playing for the oilers is gonna turn schultz into norris trophy material?

perhaps compare him to someone even remotely close to his level....if you're dealing with strictly ottawa, then i'd say cowen, or perhaps weircoch, boroweicki, or cowen.

you comparing schultz to karlsson is like me comparing zibanejad to malkin

Well good thing you can see how a player is improving without directly comparing him to Tyler Bozak, provided you watch him.

Nobody thinks that Schultz will ever come near Karlsson. Hes just making a point.

if his point was to prove that he's absoutely clueless.....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

if i was to compare silfverberg to stamkos, would i just be making a point?

Gagner >>> Turris

No dman on the oilers is as good as Karlsson.

I know the 8th overall pick sounds super duper fantastic before the draft, but name "Derick Pouliot" doesn't exactly make me all giddy to trade Gagner.
- Zombie

While this is true...there is potential at #8 overall as well...

It went like this:

People claim that we should reserve judgment before even saying that Gagner>Turris RIGHT NOW by the mere fact that Turris hasn't gotten to play much in the NHL.

That's silly, isn't it? In terms of the NHL, Isn't Karlsson WAY better than Schultz right now? Isn't Stamkos WAY better than Yakupov or Silverberg right now? Shouldn't we be allowed to say that? Now granted Turris and Gagner are way closer than either of those comparisons, but why is it so unfair to talk about NHL accomplishment so far. It's not like anyone is claiming that Gagner has shown more than Turris will ever show.

Oh my bad. Hes still improved every year(after his sophomore year). Career highs in goals, and +/-. And as for you comparing him to bozak, they had exactly the same statistical year but hes 4 years older and a - player on what is a "better team"

you keep saying that, so what's his point? is it that comparing two reasonably close players, like turris and gagner, is the same as comparing players who aren't even on the same plane of existence, like schultz and karlsson?

good point

I watch both play...
I just used Bozak as a comparison cause he played for my Leafers and had similar stats...and yet Bozak gets raged on by other teams fans saying he is no better than a 3rd liner, yet a guy of similar stature and with similar numbers is an above average 2nd liner...
I got no hate for SG...I remember watching him light it up for London Knights a few years back...

I have no problem with Bozak, and discussions of trade worth, let alone comparative trade worth (by idiots on the internet no less), have nothing to do with accomplishment or improvement as a player.

If you watch both play, you probably see some of this similar things that Oilers fans do - he's still in his own head a fair bit, but has become a lot more responsible and well-rounded, and has moments of clarity where he looks really good.

Turris and Gagner arent even in the same class bud. Gags is 10 times the player.
