Given how far Grigs droped, I'd say he's got about a 10% chance of being better then Gagner (and a 60%+ chance of being worse) - Zombie
Look how far Coutourier dropped last year.
So does that leave 30% to him being on par with SG? |

Being Russian and having Mono didn't help his cause. |

Yup, I think that your best hopes for Grigs is that he turns out to what Gagner already is, but a couple inches taller. I can't rationalize the logic in that. Sure there's a chance that he turns into an 80 point forward in the NHL, but it's not likely. IMO signing gagner to 5 years, 3.75 mil would be fair for both sides (but I think it will likely cost 4 mil per to lock him up). |

Coutourier had a nice rookie season, but he certainly isn't guaranteed to be any better then a bottom 6'er either.
And ya, guys drafted in his range have roughly a 30% chance of being on par with Gagner... not a bet I'd take with those odds. |

I don't get the Couturier love. He didn't have a stand out rookie year and he only had a couple of good games in the playoffs.
I see a very poor man's Jordan Staal. |

Well he was +18 and looked quite well according to those usage charts, so a few people should like him right off the bat.
Was physical for an 18 year old and was real decent 47% on the draw for a rookie.
Was Philly's second main PK forward, which is quite good for an 18 year old rookie
And he chipped in with 27 points.
Not sure what's not to like. He'd probably be a better #2 on this team right now than anyone else that we have. |

So then why wasn't he sheltered and given primo PP time to help him out? |

He was sheltered at even strength in a bottom six roll. Typically your penalty killers play in the bottom six which is why he played 2:41 per game on the PK.
I'm not saying he sucks... I just don't get why he's put up on this pedestal of being some kind of super rookie sensation. |

Well for a kid that played right out of junior he did quite well. I'd take him over Gagner in a heartbeat. |

This year you could have had Grigorenko (big Centre), Forsberg (another winger to complete your top6), Trouba or Ceci (two monster Dmen)...
You prefer SG over all 4 of them? - BoBBeR56
Yes. Very likely none of them see playing time this year and maybe next. 2 of the four are going to be busts(based on percentages of past first rounders that never make it). You cant ell me that any one of them is going to be a 50 point 2nd line guy. You can specualte all you want but its just that... |

I made a mistake in Barry's thread saying Frattin and a 3rd for Bernier is brutal.
Leaf fans aren't happy with me now. |

I would lean towards Couturier only because he seems to be a good pk player. I still think the Oilers will regret taking Yakupov. |
